Authorities said Wednesday they have no suspects
in the slaying of 6-year-old Alanna Gallagher, and they announced a reward of up
to $10,000 for information in what they called an isolated attack.
Alanna was found bound and wrapped in tarp at a Saginaw intersection
Monday night in a case that shook area residents and is drawing national
attention. Investigators have questioned Alanna s family, but a police
spokesman said they are not considered suspects.
We send our heartfelt
prayers to the family for their loss of their child, said Saginaw police
Officer Damon Ing. As you can imagine, they are very distraught at this time.
Ing said no one has been ruled out as a suspect. The reward is being offered by
the FBI for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. All

flexibility.
Despite the public plea for help solving the case, Ing
said, I can assure the community of Saginaw and all surrounding areas that you
are perfectly safe. I believe this is going to be an isolated case.
At
the family home about a mile from where Alanna s body was dumped, her father
read a brief statement. I m Karl Gallagher, the father of Alanna Gallagher,
who the medical examiner has determined & has died, he said. We urge
anyone with information about her to contact police. We thank the Saginaw
police, the FBI and any other agencies for their hard work on this. Please
respect our privacy during this time.
Gallagher declined to answer any
questions. Also on Wednesday, police released a recording of a 911 call that a
man made after he and his family members discovered the body at Roundrock Drive
and Cindy Lane shortly after 7 p.m. I think it s a little girl, it s in a
plastic bag, somebody dropped it off, the caller said. I think it s a baby
girl, a little girl. & I can see the legs and everything. & There s a
belt around it, tape.
About two hours after the body was discovered,
Alanna s parents flagged down a Saginaw police officer to report that their
daughter was missing. It s unclear when they were notified that their daughter
was found dead.FBI agents and Saginaw police searched the family home in the 600
block of Babbling Brook Drive all day Tuesday. They were seen carrying cardboard
boxes and paper bags out of the home.
Saginaw police requested FBI
assistance Monday night, said an FBI spokeswoman. At this point, the FBI has
primarily provided our evidence response team for the collection and processing
of evidence, Katherine Chaumont said in an email.Tarrant County officials said
a judge sealed the search warrant executed at the house, and they refused to
release any information about it.
But a list of items seized by
investigators was visible on the front seat of a car in front of the Gallagher
home. That list included Wal-Mart plastic bags; Charmin Ultra Soft four-pack;
blue/gray tarp; various colored tape; Citizens Academy card; and a copy of a
Social Security card.Neighbors said they would often see Alanna playing by
herself, sometimes riding on her purple scooter.
The violent crime,
which is particularly rare for this city, has led some to recall the abduction
and slaying in 1999 of 6-year-old Opal Jo Jennings in Saginaw. Richard Lee
Franks, a convicted child molester, was sentenced to life in prison in that
case.
It also evokes memories of one of the most notorious unsolved
child murders in the country, the 1996 kidnapping and murder of 9-year-old Amber
Hagerman in Arlington. The case was the inspiration for the Amber Alert
notification system.
When you re multitasking like mad, a
standard-aspect-ratio monitor can t provide enough real estate to display every
open window without many of them overlapping and obscuring one another. For this
reason alone, most Macworld editors and designers use more than one display.
Constantly rearranging multiple browser, text editor, chat, and photo-editing
windows as you search for the one you need saps productivity and invites
frustration.
But using multiple displays isn t a panacea, either.
First, you need a graphics card that can meet the demands you may have for two
displays. Second, multiple video and power cables add clutter to your work
environment. Third and most important a gap between the displays is
inevitable, no matter how carefully you arrange them. Even the narrowest bezel
creates a blind spot as your mouse pointer crosses from screen to screen.
The new 29-inch, ultrawide displays featured here each delivering a
resolution of 2560 by 1080 pixels on a single screen are designed to take the
place of two smaller monitors. Using one longer monitor instead of two smaller
ones lets you use a single connection from your computer and removes the problem
of pesky bezels that break your concentration as your eyes scan from left to
right across the screen. Ultrawide displays are just the ticket for productivity
apps, and they re not bad for gaming, either.
