Window film can provide several benefits that include reducing glare and heat gain or loss, increasing safety and security, and improving privacy. To ensure you obtain the benefits you want, however, you need to employ a window tint film supplier that can carry out the job competently.

You can identify suppliers through advertisements, trade publications and by internet searches, and can assess suitability by reading reviews and speaking to people who’ve used them. Once you obtain a shortlist of suitable candidates, be sure to ask relevant questions to choose the best one.

1. Can you describe the brands you use?

Suppliers should use well-known brands to ensure quality materials are provided. These brands should give the best outcome and last longest, with manufacturers warranties of a minimum of ten years and top-class service as well.

2. Can you describe the process?

Find out what happens from the initial enquiry and the length of time to the completion of installation. Any reputable supplier should undertake a free survey to understand what is required and to determine the most suitable materials for the job. Certain types of film are suitable for particular kinds of glass and are designed to meet specific issues so it’s necessary to know the situation to ensure the correct product is used.

3. What experience do you have?

You really need a supplier that has the experience and technical knowledge to handle any type of installation. Although it’s good to support start-up businesses, you don’t want to take on a novice.

4. What accreditations and other documentation do you have?

At the very least, the supplier must have adequate insurance in case anything goes wrong. Membership of professional bodies may also demonstrate competence while the ability to work on construction sites or similar areas may be useful.

5. What benefits will I gain?

You may have specific aims, such as reducing heat gain and so saving on air conditioning costs. If so, the supplier should be able to give an idea of the likely payback period.

6. What aftercare is needed?

Cleaning is sometimes not advised for a few weeks to enable the film to bond properly. After that, you need to know what you can and should not do.
