Simple Steps to Maintain your Split AC

by Rudra S. Consultant
If using AC extensively, it’s important to clean and maintain it regularly to keep it running smoothly. Here are the simple steps to maintain your 18000 BTU Inverter Split Ac Price in Kenya.

Step 1: Dry the AC
A running AC has moisture and sometimes also contains water. Before beginning the process of cleaning the AC unit, it’s important to dry it. Setting the AC on ‘Fan Mode’ and running it for 30-40 minutes will do the trick and the moisture will evaporate.

Step 2: Disconnect the unit from the power source
To avoid any electrical shocks or short circuits, disconnect the AC unit from the main power source. Before cleaning any electrical appliance, it’s important to do this. Ensure that the AC doesn’t get any power supply before dismantling it for cleaning.

Step 3: Cover the unit
While cleaning the AC, it’s important to protect the fragile parts to avoid getting dirty. Lay a large garbage bag around the indoor unit to catch all the falling dirt and dust and avoid it from getting back in the AC unit.

Step 4: Detach the Front Panel
To clean the AC unit thoroughly, detach the front panel to access the internal parts. Locate the latches that hold the front panel of the indoor unit and undo them. If the AC has tabs, push the tabs and lift the panel upwards carefully to avoid any harm. If the panel doesn’t come out, hold it with one hand to clean the interior of the unit. There are some AC units where the panel doesn’t come out but can only be lifted upwards. In this case, hold it with one hand to clean the interior.

Step 5: Remove the Air Filters
After listing or detaching the front panel of the split AC unit, the long rectangular pieces fastened to the unit are the air filters. Identify the tabs that connect the air-filters with the unit, press them and remove the filters. If there are no tabs visible, check the user manual to understand how the filters are attached to the unit in your AC model. Shake off the dust carefully from the filters using a toothbrush or vacuum cleaner.

Step 6: Wash the Air Filters
After unlatching and dusting the air filters, wash them off with mild soap and clean water to remove the small dust particles. Use a fresh cleaning pad or a sponge to scrub, rinse them thoroughly and air-dry them before fixing them back. Avoid drying them in direct sunlight or using other electrical appliances like a dryer on them as it may damage the outer body or functioning of the filters.

Step 7: Flush the Drain Lines
The pipe that separates the indoor and the outdoor units are called the drain line. You can use a pressurized flush kit with a pressurized nozzle that can clear any clogs in the drainpipe using the force of water or cleaner. Make sure to air-dry the drain line till it’s completely free of water before reconnecting it and turning the AC on.

Step 8: Clean the main unit
After cleaning and fixing all the parts safely, reconnect the unit to the main power source to check if the AC is running properly. Run the unit for around 15-20 minutes to drain out all the dirty water that can come out after the AC starts running. Once all the dirty water is out, the AC will be good to go.

Air Conditioners are expensive commodities and if not maintained well, they can cost a lot of money. The high price of an 18000 BTU Inverter Split Ac Price in Kenya is worth regularly cleaning and maintenance of your unit at home. If you’re unclear about any of these steps while cleaning your unit, reach out to your service providers to avoid causing any harm to your AC.
