Silk Base Closure vs. Swiss Lace Closure – The Difference

by Sophia Johnson We provide hair extension services.
A closure is a special hair unit where hair strands is hand tied to a material. It helps the wearer to give an appearance of a natural scalp area and does not look like any artificial band. It is placed on the crown area to close off the style, thus the name is “closure”.  Closures are available in various sizes but the common is 3 inches wide by 4 inches deep.  Now, closures may be of two types - Silk base closures and Swiss lace closures. In Swiss lace closures strands of hair are hand tied to a mesh or net like material. In silk base closures the hair strands are used on a silk material. Before using closures it is important to know the pros and cons of both types, which may help you in choosing the best top closure.

The Foundation:

The base of the Swiss lace closures is of course lace. It is much thinner and flatter thus giving the hairline a more natural overall look.

But since the lace is a mesh like material often bleaching or some material is needed to avoid the appearance of the tied knots. Sometimes the net grid lines are also visible.

On the other hand, silk base closures have no such problem. They are popular mainly because no bleaching is required to get a natural look.

The Color:

The lace closures are available in different shades to match your skin color but they are almost translucent making it easy to see underneath.

There is some material in case of silk base closures that ensures a more natural look of a scalp. You can also customize the color of these closures according to your scalp color.

The Material:

As the material in silk base closures is not netted the scalp is not accessible. Thus, silk base closure is not suitable for those having skin problems like dandruff, dermatitis or those who sweat excessively.

The Cost and Longevity:

Cost and longevity are the two basic issues you will surely like to examine before trying and buying these products -

Swiss lace closure are less costly than the silk base ones. Thus, you can buy them if your usage is for temporary purpose.

While in terms of age, silk base closures live longer and are easy to handle and wear.

So these two types of closures have lots of differences and thus the choice should be made carefully depending on the purpose and your suitability. There is another one – the polyurethane base closure. It is almost same as the silk base closures but may be the durability is longer. With all these differences all types of closures serve the same purpose of looking gorgeous and preventing your scalp and original hair from damage.
