Sikh Pilgrimage
by Aryan Mathur Experience the WorldSikhism is believed to be one of the most prominent religions in India. Though a minority group in Indiathere are many places all over India that are holy and sacred. A lot of people go for the pilgrimage or the religious travel as one might like to call and they find great peace in this travel especially on their visit to Hemkund Sahib.
Let us look at some of
the pilgrimage sites for the Sikh people but as one must know they are open to
people of all faiths too.
Golden Temple – One of the most important places for all Sikhs in and outside India is the
Golden Temple of Amritsar. As they say all Sikhs during the time of the
construction of the structure had a role to play in making the temple what it
looks now from inside and outside. It is said that this old temple’s foundation
was laid down by the Guru ArjunDev in 1589. A Muslim saint of those times
called the Mir Mohammed Muayyinul Islam, popularly known as Mian was also asked
to lay down a foundation stone so as to bring the communal harmony to another
improved level. This site is the most important pilgrim site since it is here
where the original holy book of Sikhs called the ‘Adi Granth’ lies.
Gurudwara Achal Sahib
–This is another very famous religious site one can visit for it was here where
Guru Nanak was able to prove to the Yogis who renounced the world that what is
more important is to realise the love and elegance of God rather than engaging
in magical tricks and then renouncing the world.
Gurudwara Ber Sahib
– It is said that this was the place where Guru Nanak would wake up early and
right before the meditation he would go for a bath to the Bein river. One day
in that instance he went missing in the river and was not seen for full 3 days.
This was the time when he was in communion with the God. After the
enlightenment he came to surface of the river and took a pledge to spread the
message of God through Sikhism to the entire world. People from all over India
and abroad come here to see the river and the tree which Guru Nanak had planted
during those days. Off course it is a huge tree now.
Muktsar – This is
a holy city where many gurudwaras are found. It is also the place where the
last battle was fought by Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. There are many holy
shrines here such as the Rikabganj, Datan Sahib, Dukhbhajan Sahib, etc. which
show the life and achievements of the great Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
Deena Kangar – There is a beautiful Gurudwara at this place that reminds you of the letter
called the ‘Zafarnama’ that was written by Shri Guru GobindJi for Mughal
emperor Aurangzeb and which finally became the cause of his death too. The
Gurudwara is built in the memory of the same incident. Lots of people come here
to see the beautiful structure and to find peace and solace here.
