Siding repair: how to reanimate a vinyl cladding

by Ivan Q. programmer
Vinyl siding can become unusable for several reasons:

  • Siding panels can melt during extreme heat.
  • In cold weather, the fragility of the material increases very much. At very low temperatures, poor-quality panels can crack by themselves.
  • Vinyl cladding is very resistant to mechanical stress. In particular, this becomes noticeable if children live in the house. When playing in the courtyard, they often damage the lining (even a strong hit with the ball sometimes leads to surface damage).

The instructions for replacing the siding panel are very simple:

1. Insert the end of the mounting hook into the lock located on the damaged panel.
2. Pull the mounting hook down and along the siding, freeing engagement.
3. We bend the top panel, allowing access to the nail strip of the damaged segment.
4. Using a nail puller, pull out the siding fasteners.
5. We remove the damaged facing detail.
6. Now we install a new structural element, fixing it on the crate using self-tapping screws or nails.
7. Using the mounting hook we snap the plastic locks.

We repair a corner profile
Most often the front part of the corner profile for siding suffers.

If this happens, then repair of the lining can be carried out indiscriminately covering:

1. We cut off the front strip from the damaged corner profile, while leaving the nail strip with the bottom of the receiving chute intact.
2. We take the whole profile and cut off the front bar from it.
3. We attach the new part to the old nail strips using rivets (vinyl or kapron). Repair of J and H profiles is done in the same way.

Restore the swollen area
Very often in a hurry it happens that the structure is sheathed with siding, without waiting for the walls and foundations to shrink. This is a final shrinkage, which takes time, which modern construction companies are not in a hurry to take on a new profitable order.

As a result of this, individual siding sheets swell. Very often this is observed at the junction of wooden attics and brick walls. This is because wood and brick have different speeds and shrinks, resulting in a variety of skews.

Repair of the intumescent sheet is as follows:
1. We release it from the lock using the mounting hook.
2. We straighten the removed panel.
3. A steel starting strip is inserted into the gap formed in the lining, on which the distance between the lock of the lower part and the locking hook of the removed part should be noted with a pencil. Thus, the main purpose of these works is to install spacers between the parts of the castle. The spacer will exclude subsequent deformation of the panel.
4. Install the spacer.
5. Install the straightened sheet in place.
