Short and Simple Essay on My Pet Dog - Rufus

by Austin Clarke Content Writer
Pets are not just dogs and cats that we shelter; they could be rabbits, birds, squirrels, and so on. They’re not just animals that we shelter. Once kept, they become a part of our family. A very interesting and amazing thing about pets is that, no matter what, they show unconditional love to their masters. It’s not like masters can ill treat their pets because one can be a master only if he/she can carefully take charge of the pet. Protect it from danger and love it.

I have three dogs, the youngest one’s name is ‘Frosty’, because she came to me in winter. Her fur is black, she’s not visible in the dark. Then comes the good boy of my house, ‘Rufus’, because he’s got a big head. He’s handsome and has brown fur. After them, comes the eldest one, ‘Misty’, because this one came to me on a misty day. She has black and brown fur and is very beautiful, she looks like a breed of a German shepherd but isn’t.

All three of them seem to be very happy when they play along all day, with each other. They keep each other good company, and me too. It's fun the watch them run up and down from the front yard to the balcony, barking at birds outside. They won’t let a car pass by in peace. It’s like a tripod, one running after the other, but seems to be incomplete when even one of them is missing in action.

Once, my dogs discovered that they could run out of the gate if they ever see it open, and that’s such an exercise, trust me. Trying to get them back inside is such a task. Once they came in, washing them is another task. Washing them up is confusing; it’s hard to make out who is giving whom a bath.

There’s soap everywhere, soap on the nose, soap on my clothes, soap on their tails and to me it seems like a whole dance show. Slipping and sliding on water. My mother usually sings us a song when we finish with our bath, and it goes like;

“come my darling, come to me,
Show your tails, wag them along,
Wiggle wiggle your bodies,
And shoo away the fleas.”

Once this whole activity is done, they eat their meals and rush to my bed for a good noon’s sleep.  One day, we had to leave our dogs home alone, and that was the end of my dad’s patience. Pieces of paper everywhere, pillow fillings flying in the air, and them, showing their puppy faces like nothing ever happened and even if it did, they had nothing to do with it.

This is how my home looks a normal fun day. Full of activities, full of fun. Having my four-legged babies has fulfilled every missing element in my life. I walk them in the morning and walk them in the evening, play fetch with them. You never get bored of having a pet, there’s always something new they’ve come up with, to shock you.

It could be the irregular positions they sleep in, the way they hang their tongues out, the weird noises they make in the middle of the night, and the list go on.

Will you all also share your home with a pet? Keep a pet, and you’ll see how happiness comes your way. Play along with them, and you’ll always be loved, have a new friend and always have a companion.
