Scares, Scenery, and Pumpkin Spice

by Kevin Smith Author

September is drawing to a close, and that means Fall and Halloween are right around the corner. It's the time for walks amongst the golden and red canopies of the nearby nature trails; to indulge yourself in candy apples and pumpkin-flavored...well, everything; and to dare venture the scariest haunted house attractions and graveyards. When scheduling a trip at one of the many family vacation resorts in Georgia, don't forget to include some of these upcoming festivals and activities in your itinerary for an unforgettable experience:

Costume Parades

Nothing quite compliments Halloween like a great costume, whether you're dressed as one of your favorite ghouls, a goofy imitation of an object or a person, or a full-on cosplay of a pop-culture icon or hero. The Little 5 Points Halloween Parade in Atlanta on Oct. 20 is the perfect display of the city's finest costumes and festive nature, and it's the perfect setting for families of all ages to celebrate the spooky occasion without too many scares. The Fright Night Festivals in Six Flags are also a great spectacle to observe, so long as you can handle the intense rides and scares around every corner.

Haunted Houses

Adrenaline junkies and Halloween enthusiasts alike will love Georgia's extensive selection of haunted houses, ranging from mild corridors and scares that families can brave together to pure nightmarish landscapes that only the bravest of heart would dare traverse. For example, the Netherworld haunted house attraction near Atlanta is considered by local visitors and national critics alike to be one of the best haunted houses in the country thanks to its vivid detail and spine-tingling terror. Other Georgian favorites include 13 Stories, Plantation Blood, and the Paranoia Haunted House, all of which are worth the visit if you can handle the horrors within.

Nature and Scenery Walks

Scares aren't made for everyone, but thankfully there are several peaceful fall attractions and natural trails that people of all temperaments can enjoy. Those who love to learn about history and famous figures will love the beautiful candle-lit pathways and stories of Oakland Cemetery. Callaway Gardens offers amazing nature trails and scenic views from its resort all year long, making it a perfect stop to admire the falling of leaves while on your morning jog or boat ride through the lake. Finally, local pumpkin patches and festivals are scattered all around the state, including the pumpkin patch at Yule Forest, so you can pick the perfect gourds to commemorate the holiday and serve with warm coffee and spirits.

Create an unforgettable Halloween experience for you and your family when you visit Georgia this October. Explore your options for family vacation resorts in Georgia along with all sorts of seasonal activities for your trip soon.
