We all love rain and getting drenched in it. But when it comes to driving in heavy rain, do you still share this feeling? We doubt! Because driving in rain is far more difficult than riding on other days. Not only are the roads slippery and filled with water, but there’s also lots of fog in the air which can blur your vision. This obviously leads to many unfortunate events and accidents.

Best safety tips for a better driving experience during rains!

How many times have you run out to drive in heavy pouring rains due to an emergency and been scared to death? It’s natural to feel terrified while driving in such a situation because weather and road conditions during rains can be really tough. But if you’ve been trained from a good driving school in Clayton like Your Local Driving Academy, they would have educated you perfectly for such drives. Their best trainers and teachers are known to impart good driving knowledge to their students. And some of these tips to drive safely during heavy rains would be lifesaving:

  • Check your car before driving — If only you could, you would definitely stop any misfortune that could come your way. And the best you could do to avoid a mishap on a raining day can be by checking your car thoroughly before moving out. (You wouldn’t want to get drenched in the middle of the road with a flat tyre!)

  • Slow down while driving— The roads are slippery and also water gets clogged in some areas during a heavy downpour. Accidents are bound to happen in such a situation. Better be alert and drive below the speed limit that’s instructed for that road.

  • Keep your windshield wipers on — It’s but practical and wise to use your windshield wipers when driving during heavy rains. It keeps wiping the water off the glass and that is why you can see the road better and clearer.

  • Keep your headlights and taillights on — Everyone would have instructed you to keep your headlights on so that you can get a better view of the road ahead. But, mostly keeping the taillights on is ignored and the vehicles following you can’t see your automobile properly. Even this causes lots of accidents during rainy weather.

  • Maintain a good distance from other cars — As compared to other seasons, monsoon causes a lot of destruction in the road. And you never know which car would be out of control due to dwindling brakes or slippery roads. That is why keeping a safe distance from the other cars turns out to be the best solution to avoid accidents.

  • Stay away from standing water — Standing water and puddles can cause lots of accidents as you can’t fathom how the condition of the road beyond it is. It also impacts the tyres making them skid while driving. Ignore such routes or roads if you can. And if by any chance, you hit such roads and see the puddle of water, don’t turn the wheels immediately.

Apart from these, also use your defogger and defroster to keep safe; and if possible, halt for a while to let the very heavy rains pass and then continue moving!
