Remy Or Non Remy Hair, Which To Choose?

But how do you know that these are real natural locks? There are 2 types of wicks to perform a Brazilian weaving, here are the characteristics of each of them.

The term "Remy Hair" indicates that the hair from which the strands originate has all their cuticles intact and healthy. As with natural locks, all cuticles are aligned in the same direction. We speak of “Remy” quality when the hair has been directly removed from the donor's head. They must also have been cut into a ponytail to ensure that none of the wicks have fallen to the ground.

Remy wicks are therefore of good quality and highly appreciated by professionals. They last quite a long time and can be reused several times. Finally, you can color them, loop them without any problem.

Non Remy hair strands are cheaper and therefore more popular than the previous two. Unlike Remy wicks, the hair is mixed from the roots to the tips, so that all the hair does not run in the same direction. To do this, the cuticles of the donor's hair and their ends are shaved.

They are then chemically treated so that they are all the same size. This results in a loss of gloss that suppliers are trying to hide under a coating of silicone. A negative point for the customer, after each wash, the silicone is gradually removed and the wicks quickly become dull. They are also much more difficult to style than natural locks.

Cheveux Remy is a standard, a guarantee of quality. The mention Remy Hair, indicates that the hair had to respect certain quality criteria as mentioned above:

Cheveux Remy is 100% natural and virgin, that is to say, that it has not undergone any treatment, unlike conventional extensions that are soaked in acid baths before siliconizing them before using them.

To meet the Cheveux Remy standard, the cuticle must be intact, i.e. closed as in the first image. The second image shows a hair with the damaged cuticle. With a damaged cuticle, the hair becomes porous, dries less well and loses its flexibility.

For the Cheveux Remy standard to be respected, the hair must imperatively come from the same person and must be cut and assembled in the same direction. Remy Hair must not be hair picked up on the ground or collected in a brush.

The hair then oriented in the same direction (root / tip) can not tangle, so extensions with this guarantee of quality can be styled and handled like your own hair once positioned on your head.

The hair described as A is often of poor quality extensions. Either the extensions are mixed, synthetic hair with natural hair, or the cuticle is damaged and therefore replaced by silicone.
