The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 44.5 millions adults of the United States of America were current smokers in the year 2004. That means every 5 people had more than one smoker in them. The numbers were broken down as per ethnicity and it showed that whites had 22.2%, African American had 20.2%, Hispanics had 15.0%, American Indians and Alaska natives had 33.4% and Asian Americans had 11.3% smokers among them.
