Solo Travel

Pro: You have your own schedule

Traveling alone drastically reduces the drama of having to decide whether you'd rather see the Champs-Élysées or the Tour de Eifel first, order pizza Margherita or Panzanella, hike up Mount Olive, or walk to the Wailing Wall. The point is when you travel alone, you get to decide what, when, and whom you do it with, which is incredibly liberating! When you’re on your own, you don't waste time on trading and negotiating some experiences for others because you decide your itinerary from the beginning of the trip to the end.

Con: Traveling by yourself can get lonely

People don’t often address it, but the truth is that traveling by yourself can feel isolating. You can be out for a couple of days or even a few months, but when you don’t have anyone around to talk to about your adventures, celebrate feats with, or share an experience with, you start wishing you had a companion. You'll frequently catch yourself saying "I wish ______ was here to see this." This loneliness causes some people to either venture back home or look for comfort in the wrong places.

Group Travel

Pro: Traveling is very convenient

You don't have to worry about anything when you opt to take a tour; someone else handles all the details for you and your group. You choose a travel itinerary, pay the operator and leave travel agencies to the airline bookings, shuttles, guides, and hotels. All you need to do is arrive at your departure point on time.

Con: Pre-planned itineraries limits time

Some travelers would prefer to see things at their own pace and appreciate the independent flexible travel provides. If you are the type of traveler who stops to smell the roses, then a tour group’s itinerary might not be your best bet.

Spontaneous sightseeing is not usually part of a group tour experience. If you have your heart set on marveling at the works all day in the Louvre, skip the tour group and see Paris on your own.

Solo Travel:

Pro: Makes you self-reliant

Being on your own cultivates a strong sense of self-reliance. When you're alone, you become warier of your surroundings and safety. You forget how shy you are and get this surge of confidence to ask for directions, explore uncharted territories outside of your safe zone, and skydive into places like Mykonos.

You come back from your travel stronger, smarter, and a more independent person.

Con: It can be expensive

There's no one to split the bill with at lunch, you sometimes need to get an entire room for just yourself, and it makes negotiation much harder compared to when you're in a group. More often than that, establishments offer group discounts, but the lone wolf must pay in full retail price. You'll have to do a lot more research on how to save money. Otherwise, you'll be spending a pretty hefty amount for that spare bed you don't even need.

Group Travel:

Pro: Social Opportunities

Some tours are created with socialization in mind. You will get to know people and make lasting friendships with the other folks on your journey. It's mostly a great thing as everyone is on vacation and trying their best to have fun just like you.

Con: Accommodations and dining options

You don't have any control over hotel and restaurant options when you're with a tour group. Although tour operators do their best to find suitable quality lodgings and accommodate their guest's dietary preferences, you won’t be able to book a different hotel if the one you're in doesn't live up to your expectations. You will need to eat at least some meals with your tour group (to compensate the money you paid) or pay extra to eat somewhere else.

Kosher River Cruises has options for both types of travelers. We do our best to make sure their needs are met and to make your trip as easy as possible.
