by Randhir Pandey Team Lead - Marketing

It is hard to keep any student engaged in the classroom, and if he or she is from the primary years, the job becomes much more difficult. This early stage is essential for the kids as the young brain is more capable of taking information and habits faster than ever. But for that, it is necessary to create classroom activities that will keep the children engaged in the whole learning process.

Productivity can only be attained if the students are devoted and interested in the activities. Then only, it can help them develop their problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.

So, how can teachers build up an engaging and captivating class?

The following activities can help in achieving that:

·         Include appealing videos- Videos are better at grabbing children’s attention than plain text. So, school should take initiative of showing educational videos in the class. By this, they will better retain the information.

·         Create fun games- Making a game out of the lessons of a class will make the whole process much more fun. Games like memory game, Educational bingo, Crazy train, sentence race, four corners can help in breaking the monotony and thus, students can enjoy while learning.

·         Incorporate the students’ interests- Teachers must ask students about their areas of interest and hobbies they have. Selecting a common interest and then integrating them into the lesson plan will make it much more engaging. These interests can also be utilised as a form of rewarding the students.

·         Inspire the students to discuss- In a classroom full of children, it is not easy to stop constant chattering. This can be avoided if they are encouraged to start a meaningful discussion. It will also give the students a feeling that their opinions and ideas matter to the teachers. Discussions make the students think critically about the topic at hand.

·         Show them how the lessons are relevant to them- The students will become more engaged in the lessons if they see that they are related to their own life. By showing how learning each discipline can benefit them can and help to enhance their interest and concentration in the class.

·         Give them choices- To give them a feeling that they are in control of what they want to do, the teachers must provide them choices. But, this option should be productive, like they should be given the freedom to choose which homework they want to do first.

·         Teach them why they must make positive actions- The primary school children must be taught how engaging in positive actions can help them to have a good feeling about themselves. And this feeling can be turned into a powerful motivation for them to make the right choices. Thus, teachers must help them to learn how they can turn negative thoughts into positive ones to generate a pleasant perception about themselves.

So, these actions can be taken to make the classroom teaching more fun and interesting for the students. This way they will learn and take in the lessons better.
