Precautionary Measures Taken During Deep Tissue Massage Therapy

by Nathan Daniel Content Creator

Deep tissue massage therapy may provide various benefits when treating muscle and joint problems as well as providing relaxation, release of tension and pain relief. However, safety is also something that needs to be addressed when providing a quality treatment to help ensure the best results possible. Here, we will discuss some of the safety issues the practitioner will  take into account during the massage treatment.

  1. Communication

It almost goes without saying that effective communication between the deep tissue massage therapist in Sydney and the client is essential. One reason for this is so that an appropriate medical history can be taken, noting past injuries, postural issues, physical activity, medical conditions – all of which can help determine the details of the treatment.

  1. Assessing the Health

Before commencing the deep tissue massage therapy, the practitioner will perform a comprehensive health assessment which involves asking questions (see point 1 above) as well as a physical examination. This exam will help the practitioner to determine not only the best type of treatment but a treatment that is going to be safe for the client because certain techniques can aggravate a problem if used at inappropriate times.

Some examples of the conditions they will take into account include high blood pressure, recent surgeries, skin infections – conditions that will require adjustments of the massage techniques so that the best outcome can be achieved.

  1. Attention To Detail Massage

While providing a deep tissue massage in Sydney, the practitioner will definitely have an eye for detail.  This is yet another precautionary measure they will take to help keep the treatment safe and to avoid aggravating a condition. These treatments involve significant pressure on different muscles as well as moving joints through their maximum range, so it is possible to cause injury to the client if techniques are not used appropriately.

They will begin the treatment gently and then slowly increase the pressure on the muscles, ligaments and joints. Now sometimes there is a little discomfort but, when controlled, it is part of the normal treatment of an area. But if care is not taken, injury can result.

  1. Aftercare and Hydration

Finally, the Sydney deep tissue massage practitioner will ensure that their clients are well hydrated. This is a safety precaution as a good treatment will help the body to release toxins and hydration helps this metabolic process. Hydration can also help to reduce any soreness that may otherwise result from ‘working the muscles’.
