Planning to buy new car tyres? Know everything about them here

by SP TYRES Automotive servicing

For many people, tyres are nothing but black circular containers with air inside them. Well, there’s nothing wrong with this notion. But it’s just that they are far more than this. It’s the tyres that carry the load of your vehicle, help the vehicle with its forward or backwards motion and withstand the harshness of roads just to give you a comfortable ride. So, these containers of compressed air have mighty significance in our life.

Just as everything under constant use needs to retire, tyres Wem also have a shelf-life. There comes a time, when you need to bid adieu to your old tyres and welcome the new ones in your life. However, there are various things that you need to keep in mind before fitting the new tyres in your car. That’s what we are going to discuss in this blog today.

When should you buy new tyres?

You must buy new tyres in the following situations -

  • Get your tyres inspected by a professional. If you see deep cracks on the sidewalls or bulges on the tyres or a worn-out tread, then it’s probably time for new tyres.
  • If it’s been five years or more than that, then get your tyres inspected thoroughly every month as you might need to get new tyres very soon after this period.
  • If it’s been ten years since you last purchased your tyres, then it’s time for new tyres even if they are in usable condition.

Things to remember when buying new tyres

When you venture out to buy new tyres, you can often be in a state of bewilderment, as there are myriads of brands available on the market. So, here are a few tips to ease off the process.

  • Buy tyres only when you need them. Get your tyres inspected by a trusted mechanic. Otherwise, your entire exercise of searching for new tyres would become futile.
  • Ensure that your car is properly aligned before you begin to mount your tyres. If there’s uneven wear and tear on your old tyres, check whether it’s inside or outside of the tyre then this might show signs of misalignment and other suspension issues in the car. You must note that you should never fit new tyres on a car that’s misaligned. That’s because the new tyres would wear even faster and wouldn’t serve the purpose they are meant for.
  • Always refer to the owner’s manual and the placard before you head towards any tyre centre. You’ll always find the information regarding the size and the type of tyres that’ll work for your car, and you must follow this information quite diligently. The placard is generally found on the right door edge of your car behind the driver’s seat.
  • Understand the tyre codes while buying them. Comprehending them helps you a lot in buying the exact type of tyres needed for your car.
  • Pay heed to the wheels before fitting those new circles on them. See if your new wheels are not damaged or worn-out. You must match the size of the tyres with that of your rims as much as you can. You might be tempted to buy the bigger tyres for the appearance, but this shouldn’t be done without going through some complicated calculations.
  • Always change your tyres Wellington in sets of two. But if you change all four together, then it’ll be a cherry on the cake. This way, you’ll be able to maintain them better.
  • The spare tyre should be checked constantly, even if you haven’t used it in a long time and you need to replace that too if ten years have passed since its date of purchase.

The longevity of the tyres mainly depends on the way you take care of them. If you maintain them well, they’re surely going to give you excellent results in the long run.
