Patient Transport services & Functions of EMT

by Ariel Linford content writer

First Aid plays a key role in the initial treatment of the patient and a good technician can prevent further damages in case of accidents or illness. First Aid is the most initial treatment that someone gets when in trouble. The stabilisation is important for these technicians and only a profound knowledge of the field can only enable a person to administer treatments according to the situation before a team of medical assistance arrives or you may also know them by ambulance technicians. First Aid administrators are not necessarily highly trained and technical but they could be normal people like us but with a bit extra knowledge on First Aid administration.

Accidents happen all the time and providing initial treatment is necessary in case the victims are seriously wounded or ill. The key is to buy some extra time which is very precious for a patient in serious conditions. Like if you find a person bleeding due to some accident, the first thing as first aid that you can provide is to clean the wound and stop the loss of blood. This is a simple but yet a very effective technique, as too much loss could risk the health of the person too. There are many other things like this that can administer once you have done a course in the respective field or have technical know-how for the situation through other resources.

EMT or Emergency Medical Technicians or also called ambulance technicians on the other hand perform slightly different functions. They provide Patient Transport as well as treat them on the way to some medical institute such as a hospital. However people often feel difficulty and find it complicated when they plan to learn the subject. However, it is not necessarily the case and you can quickly grasp the concepts easily with good courses. You can potentially save a life in case of an emergency once you take up one the courses.

The profession of EMT is not new to the medical history and there are proofs of ancient medical care and treatments that can be found easily in the libraries. However the proper role of the EMT can be seen during the 1970s when the medical associations found a good need of such professionals in case of emergencies. There are a lot of things that could go wrong and having the right knowledge to cope with the situation could save your or someone’s life. However, doctors and other medical technicians often used to play this role but now the priorities are different and doctors are needed more inside the hospital so there was a need to setup a team of qualified personnel who could attend to emergencies outside the hospitals and medical institutes and provide necessary medical administration before they are taken to the hospital. EMTs perform a vital role and many people now voluntarily take up the courses to become an EMT themselves. A prompt EMT service can save a life whereas it might not be the case if the patient had to wait to reach a hospital and then get treated. Sometimes the situations are critical and ambulances contain all the necessary life saving tools and technicians that could provide a beneficiary treatment before handed over to Professional medical teams at the medical care facility. The important role they play is to provide immediate medical care at any location and that is what makes them really vital for situations. EMTs usually work as part of rescue teams or even the crew hired by hospital and medical facilities. Other departments including police and fire departments or military also keep a team of professional EMTs for emergencies as their quick response is vital to the survival of accident victims.
