Over 7 Lakh Electricity Consumers Go For E-Bills In Mumbai
by Suraj V. Digital Marketing (sr. SEO Expert)In another step towards digitisation, lakhs of customers in
Mumbai have shifted towards e-bills, reports stated.
As per a data revealed by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), over
40,000 electricity consumers opted for e-bills over the past six months. With
this, the total number of consumers opting for e-bills has now crossed 7-lakh
mark.
The transport official stated that the BEST spends INR 7.66
per paper bill every month, giving INR 10 discount per bill every month means
incurring losses of INR 2.44 per bill. But the undertaking is happy to bear
this loss as it helps save paper and cutting of trees.
Additionally, few months ago, the Maharashtra Electricity
Distribution Company also planned to implement smart electricity meters to address consumer
complaints of inflated power bills. The meters will be first set up in regions
like Mumbai suburban, Pune, Nagpur, and Aurangabad, officials said.
Meanwhile, amid the power sector facing major crisis, Tata Power has announced a 4 per cent drop in electricity bills
and those of MSEDCL up to 2 per cent dip in the power tariff with
effects from April 1.
Besides, the MSEDCL is resorting to cutting the electric supply as a part of
its load shedding even as the temperature is soaring.
