Online magic show

The world has seen the biggest changes in 2020 since the Second World War. Coronavirus has affected every culture, nation, culture and creed. The nature of live entertainment has changed.

Whilst many performance arts struggle to move to an online offer, magic, mind reading and the illusion art form has successfully transitioned to an online medium. Magic is ultimately an in person performance piece so many magicians have had to adapt the current repertoire or create new sets to enable them to bridge the gap between live, in person entertainment and a virtual environment.

One of the most successful online magicians is Duncan William. He has created an incredible online magic show which has garnered plaudits and five star reviews from all who have watched it.

So what is an online magic show?

Each virtual magician has created their own, unique online magic show so each one is different from the last. However, there are some fundamentals that are the same. The main similarity is the platforms used by each magician. A lot of virtual magicians have taken advantage of Zoom which has experienced a surge in popularity since lockdown measures were introduced. Zoom offers a free 40 minute zoom meeting which is a similar length to a traditional online magic show.

Duncan’s magic show is no different. Hi show ranges between 35 and 40 minutes with some corporate clients requesting longer shows – which he performs, hour long performances. Some online magicians also take advantage of Microsoft Teams or Stream yard. Occasionally corporate clients ask magicians and illusionists to use their platform. These are often the premium version will all the bells and whistles. It allows the magician to perform a guests spot at a virtual event or awards ceremony.

What can you expect from an online magic show?

Each online magic show has different content and material. There are some comedy magicians, some illusionists, some mind readers and some online children’s entertainers. Duncan William bills himself as an online magician and mind reader. His routines are highly interactive. Some of the effects he performs involve the whole audience whilst other involve just a few attendees. Essentially they nearly all involve someone or a group of people on the skype or zoom call.

This is not a magic show where you just watch it. You can watch a magic series on Netflix on YouTube if you want to experience this.

How much does an online magic show cost?

The price of an online magic show varies from performer to performer. Many magicians are asking for a donation with a recommended basic fee such as £55 or £75 if you are British or $100.

How many people can attend an online magic show?

Certainly for Duncan shows, he doesn’t recommend more than 100 guests and his ideal number is between 10 and 30 guests. This is great fun because that way nearly everyone can get involved in the magic, mystery and intrigue. Any more than this, that it becomes more difficult to ensure everyone who wants to take part in the show can do so.

What kind of events work well for an online magic show?
