Nylon vs. Cotton Bath Rugs - Which One is Better

by Steven Williams Cleaning services specialist

nylon rugWhen you get out of the bathroom you definitely don't want to step on the cold floor. From one point of view it will feel freezing and uncomfortable, but what is more important is that it is not safe at all. There is a real risk to slip and injure yourself. So, most homeowners use bathroom rugs to cover this dangerous area and provide a soft and comfortable place where you can step safely once you are ready with your bath. Nowadays, the two main options are rugs made from nylon and cotton. These are two different types of fibers, each one of which has its advantages and disadvantages. In the next few lines I will compare for you these two materials. One of the main differences is that cotton is a natural product while nylon is made in fabrics.

  • Durability

Durability is the first factor which I will use to compare the two types of fibers. Nylon bath rugs definitely win this competition as they are not only very durable, but also stain and fade resistant. Even more they can stand up to traffic and wear. We can add one more quality to these characteristics- the ability of nylon to remain its original shape. On the other hand, cotton bath rugs wear pretty well, but the problem is they sometimes shrink after a washing cycle. Other possible downsides are that they stain more easily and may fade.

  • Softness

If you are looking for soft and absorbent bathroom rugs, then you need cotton floor coverings. Egyptian cotton rugs even get softer after each time you wash them in your washing machine. The main reason for this is their fiber structure. Cotton rugs, on the other hand, loose some of their softness over time. You can find nylon and cotton rugs on the market which have an attached rubber padding on one side. Its main function is to provide more plushness and minimize sliding.

  • Maintenance

Carpet cleaning specialists in West End claim that both types of rugs are cleaned pretty much the same way. They advise to wash your floor covering in cold water using a mild detergent. Restrain from using bleach and hot water.

  • Fiber structure

The cotton plant is the main source of fibers for the cotton bathroom rugs. Specialists claim organic cotton rugs are made with cotton which is grown in natural conditions only- no usage of pesticides, toxic chemicals and so on is involved. The process of producing nylon fibers is quite different as we already mentioned, because it is a man-made substance. The actual process includes melting of synthetic materials which are later processed into fibers.
