New Board Game, Brixiples™, Teaches Ethics, Safety, Common Sense and Courtesy to Children
by Alex Smith expertOctober 05, 2017 - Game Developer Jackie Dobranski
has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fundraise for her new educational
board game, Brixiples™, the first of its kind in educational gaming.
The colorful game uses 200 unique question cards to spark discussion
about tough topics such as bullying, peer pressure, discrimination,
cheating, inclusivity, inappropriate touch, gun safety, internet safety
and more, all in a safe and fun environment. The cards are based on the
Global Institute for Ethics’ five core values: honesty, compassion,
respect, responsibility, and fairness, as well as top safety issues of
our time.
"Brixiples is a terrific game to help children practice
ethical and safe decision making... A perfect way to provide
opportunities to discuss difficult subjects in a developmentally
appropriate and engaging way," said Debbie Gibbs, Head of Lowell School,
Washington, D.C.
Dobranski consulted with educators, counselors,
diversity specialists, and parents. She play-tested Brixiples™ with
kids of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, and they loved
it! Through role-playing, silly antics, inventing long apologies, and
sharing personal experiences, children engage in thoughtful discussion
and laughter. Brixiples™ empowers kids to smartly handle unsafe
situations and ethical dilemmas. They learn how to stand up for their
peers, make character-based decisions, show respect for those with
disabilities and speech problems, and empathize with those who are
different from themselves. “Children crave a safe environment to discuss
these often confusing and controversial issues, and Brixiples™ fills
that gap. Parents love it because they get the opportunity to hear how
their children respond. It’s a springboard for further discussion,” said
Dobranski.
Once the campaign is funded, Dobranski will
collaborate with educators to create a version for high school age kids.
Brixiples™ can be played at home, school, ethical societies, religious
organizations, camps, and more. Brixiples™ is for two to four players
plus one adult guide.
Contributors can back the campaign with or
without buying games, and can get updates and exclusive sneak peeks at
cards. You can help bring Brixiples™ to children by backing the
