Laser light treatment with aminolevulinic acid (ALA) is another accepted treatment for acne. In this treatment, the skin is treated with aminolevulinc acid and exposed to a sunlamp. Many people with acne who try this treatment report amazing results. The treatment removes bacteria from oil glands and helps clear the skin. The cost is somewhere between $350 to $500.

Keep in mind; any type of treatment you use depends upon your skin type. If you have oily skin, you should use a cream. If your acne flares around oily spots on your face, you need to use a gel. Also, if your skin is very sensitive, you need to choose a treatment that is not heavily concentrated. Otherwise, you may cause further flare-ups.

If the acne is not so bad, use a milder cream as a preventative measure. You must read labels carefully to apply medications to those areas that are prone to breakouts. And, if the acne is causing pain, try over the counter medications like Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Any pain should be an indication that you need to be seen by a dermatologist for further treatment.
