Navratri Special – Three recipes you need to try

Navratri is here and so are the delicious dishes that specially cooked during this period. Navratri is a time when traditionally people eat lighter food, recipes that are high is nutrients and light on the palette. Some people also fast during this period or stick to eating only fruits and drinking water for nine days straight. If you’re one of these you can benefit greatly if your buy fruits online. It will save you a tonne of time and energy.

You can also buy vegetables online and have them delivered to your house instead of spending scorching days wandering around a market. Buying vegetables online is very convenient and you can also rest assured that you will get the best, quality checked produce in the market.

If you want to experiment with some traditional Indian recipes during the Navratri, here are some easy recipes that you can try.

1.       Samak ki Tikki: These tikkis are a Navratri special evening snack. They are simple to make and delicious to eat. All you need to do is, wash your samak ke chawal thoroughly.
Recipe

a.       Add ghee to a pressure cooker, when the ghee is hot add jeera and let it crackle

b.       Once that happens add ginger and chilli paste

c.       Add the washed rice to the cooker with about 2 cups of water and cook it for about 10 minutes

d.       Once with rice is cooked add boiled potato, crushed peanuts, raisins, coriander leaves, finely chopped chillies and salt to taste

e.       Mash the mixture well and keep it in the fridge for about one hour

f.        Then a shallow pan heat some ghee, once the pan is hot, make small patties of the rice mixture and shallow fry them until they are well-done

g.       Serve with fresh green chutney. 

2.       Navratri Special Kadhi and Rice:
Recipe -

a.       Whisk 1 cup of fresh curd until its smooth

b.       Add 3 tablespoons of Rajgira ka atta to the curd and mix it well. You can easily buy atta online if you can’t find it in stores. Add water to the mix. Mix until you’re sure there are no lumps

c.       In a hot pan, make a tadka buy adding some ghee and jeera seeds, add crushed ginger and green chilli paste when the jeera starts to crackle. Lower the heat when you smell the aroma of the ginger has gone away

d.       Add the curd mixture to your tadka. Add some rock salt to your Kadhi, along with some sugar as per your taste. Stir the mixture and let the Kadhi simmer for a little while

e.       Serve it with steamed or jeera rice.

3.       Singhare ke Atte ka Halwa: This is another Navratri special easy recipe.  It very simple and takes all of 15 minutes to cook.
Recipe

a.       In a pan heat some ghee. Once the ghee is hot add your Singhare ka Atta to it. Roast the atta for about 6 to 8 minutes. Once the atta turns light brown, add one cup of hot water and stir the mix well to avoid lumps

b.       When the water is fully absorbed by the flour, add sugar. You can add as much or as little as you want

c.       Once the Halwa becomes sticky and the ghee starts to separate, turn off the heat. Garnish it with cardamom powder and some dry fruits.
