My Favorite DIY Jewelry Display Ideas

by Pierre Plante Custom Jewelry Designer
Many of us have beautiful pieces of jewelry hidden in jewelery boxes or drawers. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an attractive display in your bedroom or somewhere noticeable? So that you can not only appreciate the beauty, but you will also have a reminder to wear them more often. As you walk by and the turquoise necklace your grandmother gave you catches your eye, you may think of pairing it with a nice pair of jeans and a white blouse.

Your jewelry display should reflect your unique style and personality - get creative and have fun!

You may be able to get ideas from browsing in small boutique or antique shops. These types of stores always have interesting and eye-catching ways to display costume jewelry. Of course, there are always plenty of ideas on the Internet as well. I love looking at Pinterest and find many DIY projects that are easy and affordable as well as pleasing to the eye. I have put together some of my favorite ideas for DIY jewelry displays so that you can enjoy the beauty of having your jewelry as a centerpiece.

A wonderful and easy idea is to find an attractive picture frame and remove the glass and backing. You can string several picture hanger wires across the inner perimeter and fasten with small screws. Or you could adhere a piece of light board behind the frame and use tiny thumb tacks as hangers for necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. You can also adhere a piece of lace or wire mesh behind the frame to serve as the surface for hanging. Your necklaces will then be out of boxes and hung where you will appreciate their beauty as well as be reminded to wear them more often to complement your clothing. Another benefit of hanging your necklaces is that they won’t become tangled and knotted.

Another simple DIY necklace holder idea is to find attractive clear or colored glass bottles of varying sizes and shapes. You can make an arrangement on top of a chest of drawers, and then hang necklaces and bracelets on the bottles. This is a great way to display custom jewelry. To really create interest, you can find some small tree branches and paint them a color to compliment the bottles. Then you will have space to hang earrings and rings as well.

A few other simple DIY jewelry display ideas that can be done on any budget

Birdcages are trending right now. Many people are putting either silk flowers or candles inside of small, decorative birdcages. You could hang necklaces, bracelets and earrings from the iron bars of the cage or from the perches inside. These fabulous French enamel blue topaz earrings from one of Plante Jewelers custom collections would look beautiful dangling from a black iron birdcage.

Another very simple idea is to use a mounted key hook to hang necklaces and bracelets. For bracelets, you can paint a wooden paper towel holder and screw some brackets into the sides of the post. This makes a great holder for bangle bracelets. The next time you receive an attractive box of chocolates, instead of throwing the box out, use it to store earrings and rings.
