Mumbai Local News: WR to Remove Speed Restrictions between Goregaon-Mahim

The Western Railways (WR) has decided to remove speed restrictions at three locations between Goregaon and Mahim in order to improve punctuality of local trains on Harbour line.

Meanwhile, at some locations, the curvature will be improved upon to ensure faster speed of trains.

If reports are to be believed, the removal of speed restrictions will help trains achieve speed of 50 kmph as against 30 kmph now.

The speed limit on this route will be removed after the completion of these works in the next ten days. After removing the speed limit, the speed of the locomotive will definitely increase and it will benefit the passengers and save the travel time, said Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway.

He added that after changing the speed limit, it will be possible to save an average of 5 to 10 minutes of travel time.

At Marine Lines, there was a PSR of 20 kmph that was removed and it helped save WR two minutes per train. At Mahim, on Harbour line, the PSR is relaxed to 50 kmph as against 35 kmph earlier, allowing saving of two minutes per train. At Dadar, there is now faster arrival of trains on platform 6 as speed limit at crossover is increased to 30 kmph from 15 kmph. At Bhayander crossover too, speed limit is set at 30 kmph from 15 kmph. At Santacruz, the crossover was across three lines which has been redesigned to limit it to two, thus allowing speed to be limited to 30 kmph as against 15 kmph earlier.

For those unversed, crossovers are locations where a train interchanges tracks. Speed limits are imposed at crossovers to prevent derailments.
