by Suraj V. Digital Marketing (sr. SEO Expert)According to reports, on Tuesday,
July 5, evening, Powai Lake in Mumbai began
overflowing. This development comes in the midst of heavy rainfall lashing the
city over the last few days.
A civic official was quoted in
accounts elaborating on how the lake has a storage capacity of 545 crore
litres. Further, it was at 6.15 pm that the lake began overflowing.
This artificial lake is
prominently utilized for industrial purposes because it is not fit for human
consumption. Moreover, owing to incessant rainfall in the catchment area of the
lake in the past few days, the lake began overflowing, voiced Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC's) water
engineer department.
On Tuesday, July 5, heavy rain
lashed various parts of Mumbai. This not only impacted vehicular movement
because of waterlogging but also caused a wall collapse in Mumbra and a
landslide in Ghatkopar.
Further, the IMD has given an
"orange alert" till July 9 which depicts "very
likely chances of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places" in
Mumbai.
Moreover, 5 NDRF teams have also
been deployed in Mumbai since there persists a possibility of flooding
in the city. In light of these developments, Maharashtra Chief
Minister Eknath Shinde has directed district collectors and
officials across the state in view of the weather department's warning of
torrential rains in the next few days.
