by Suraj V. Digital Marketing (sr. SEO Expert)The Mumbai traffic police
have written to the regional transport office (RTO) to suspend the licenses of
2,446 bikers for three months who were caught riding sans helmet in the past 11
days, cited reports.
These are reportedly
repeated offenders who have ignored summons to visit the nearest traffic police
chowky and attend the two-hour lecture on traffic rules and safety, mentioned
accounts.
Based on narratives, if
the offender does not visit the police chowky, through text messages reminders
are sent to them to attend the session. However, if they fail to do so, further
action is then undertaken.
According to reports, from
April 6 to 16, the traffic police registered FIRs against 15,609 bikers for
riding without helmets. A senior traffic police officer was quoted in accounts
elaborating on how notices were sent to 3,951 offenders to visit the chowkys.
The officer added that
1,947 were asked to go through the two-hour lecture on traffic rules. They have
thus, asked r the RTO to suspend the licenses of 2,446 offenders. It has been
reported that in the last month, the traffic police issued 75,000 e-challans to
bikers caught riding without a helmet.
Recently, the traffic
police started a drive to decrease the incidents of helmetless
riding, which
causes fatal accidents on the roads of the city.
The Mumbai traffic police
have been bringing into force various initiatives to make city roads more
