More Reasons to Consider Biking in Singapore

by Liu Yang Blogger

Singapore is known for so many things—home to some of the best theme parks in the world, a nation that offers a lot of jobs to yuppies of different fields, and known to be one of the most modern and cosmopolitan cities in the world (you must have heard how the country also has one of the most efficient public transportation in the world). But little did we know that the country supports biking and cycling activities too.

In fact, bike sharing is now a thing in SG, “Bike-sharing is in-thing in Singapore now. A bike-share scheme is a service which bicycles are available for shared use to individuals for a short term,” as the article Bike Sharing In Singapore – Ofo vs oBike vs Mobike shared at the site thenewageparents.com.

Mike, who learned about bicycle rental in Singapore through his workmates, shared, “I work 5 days a week so you can only imagine how much time I spend for work. More than 40 hours weekly. I get up in the morning just to get ready to head to the office and after my shift, I head home to get ready for another day. That can really get the best of you if you do not have any weekend fun and physical activity. It is dangerous to live a sedentary life so I make sure I exercise and bike on days when I could. Biking also gives me an excuse to inhale more fresh air and that’s the time I get to see the beauty of the country and just bond with my friends here in SG.”

Alice who has two sons also enjoy bike rental in Singapore, shared she often take her family to bike, “We love staying outdoors because we like seeing greens, trees, and everything that makes your eyes and soul feel good. My sons love to bike so I join them, while they are young. There are bike friendly sites in the city and you get to meet fellow bikers which later on become your friends too. Not only is it an exercise, it is a lifestyle for us.”

Molly Hurford in her article 8 Ways Cycling Will Make You Healthier said, “Improve Your Heart. Cycling is also great for your heart—although not just because you love riding so much (though that’s a great reason too!). A recent study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise spent five years looking at the activity of 1,500 subjects. Those who were active on a daily basis were 31-percent less likely to develop high blood pressure.”

Ford Dee, a college student, shared what he loves most about biking, “It is a test of endurance for me more than anything. It measures up my patience. It also gives me a goal that doesn’t involve money or my career. I just feel more like myself when I am out there exploring the city with my humble bike. Biking strengthens my legs and improves my motor skills as well by staying alert and being more sensitive of other bikers around me.”
