MLM Success The Truth About Direct Selling

by Anton Grantham Affiliate Marketer Club - Founder

I am not a big fan of MLM…that is the concept of MLM. There are lots of companies out there, but some of them have bad business models. Too much emphasis is placed on recruiting. MLM wants to be perceived as everyone helping everyone. But in reality everyone is out for themselves and everyone is out to make money for them. They are only looking to help you if it helps them. That makes MLM success a huge hurdle.

The problem is why people join in the first place. They hear the words “Get rich quick”; “No pain and easy money”; Work from home with no effort”. The biggest fairy tale ever is that it’s easy and anyone can do it. People tell you that the product sells itself and that is not the case. You must learn to find your target market. Next you must show a genuine concern for your prospects and you must appeal to your prospects emotions.

There is heavy reliance on your downline to stay motivated to keep you in business.  Most of your time is spent keeping your team members from dropping out. It feels like you are the only one in the company that is failing. Your upline tells you to do more. You are thinking that this is stupid; continuing to doing the same things wrong. Your company may put you on the peddle stool for making a $100 sell, when in fact you spent $200 in advertisement. Your upline may not be making much money themselves but make huge overstated testimonials.

On the other hand you will see that those who believe they are not successful are indeed very successful. The issue here is that those who believe they have made it just don’t get it. Those who are successful understand that goals are made to be broken. You can never reach the top. Everyone is always a work in progress. When you reach one pinnacle you must create another.

Most of your team will not show up for webinars and won’t attend live events. They need to cut grass. It appears that the harder you work, the more distributors drop out. You pass out thousands of dollars in flyers. You have abandoned your social life to the point that you’ve become unpopular. Everyone, especially your family, work hard to avoid you.

Next you go online to become even more annoying because now you have digital tools at your disposal. There are too many people who are at the top of their company but are not making any money. Most people join MLM opportunities under the wrong pretense. They are told that when they join there will be more time to spend with their family and can work from a beach on a lap top.

Even when success is acquired, it can be wiped out in a week. If a strong distributor in your downline quits, or to make matters worse, takes their downline with them, then your income just got wiped out.

Big time MLMrs are now getting out of MLM and going into selling information products. The problem with MLM companies is that you are competing with large store chains.  In most cases someone can go to their local grocery store and purchase the same product. You work really hard to get a customer then the customer realizes they can get the same thing in a grocery store at half the price.

Again, MLM is not bad; it is just the way it is relayed to prospects. Why have the big platforms like Google banned MLMs? They have to because of false claims and they would suffer several law suits. Facebook will need to go thru a large shift in their policy at some point because of false claims and hype that pollute their search engine. It is hard to market an MLM the old way, because you must compete against lies and hype. And because people act on their emotions they will buy the lie.

The product you sell now must talk to people outside the MLM business. That way you can use Google and other platforms that are not MLM friendly. For the majority, you are forced to lie in order to make money. You are always asked if you are making money. And of course you must lie your way to success. “Fake it until you make it” is plain crazy.

There is a chance for MLM success if you work for an MLM company that is product focused. The company must make most of its income from products sales and not recruitment. Otherwise you are a pyramid scheme.

To succeed in MLM, stop trying to recruit. Promote the product and recruits will come. When you run a service business there is no need to fake it before you make it. People are no longer concerned about how much money you are making. The attention now is on the product.  If the company has a good product it will sell and eventually some of the product users will want to be a distributer themselves.

Use your own skills as a catalyst to sales. For example if you are a personal trainer, focus on being a personal trainer and when your clients ask you what you use as nutrition, show them your nutrition product.

If all you do is recruiting, you will be banned by Google because of the wording necessary to recruit. You will experience the same results on all major social platforms.

MLM is an industry of deceit. So in order to obtain MLM success you need to focus on the product because the product can’t lie. Explain the benefits of your products. Use the product yourself so that the results of your product show.
