Meet the Two Luxurious Generations of Mercedes-Benz GL-CLASS

Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is a full-size luxury SUV with a 5 door and 7-seater with front-engine, four-wheel drive (4matic)system that was produced from 2006 up to the present. The GLS-Class was formerly known as the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class but from 2016, it is known as the GLS-Class. Mercedes-Benz offers three generations; the X164, X166, and X167. 

First Generation: X164

The first generation GL-Class was produced between 2006 and 2012 with a 5-door body style. It comes with three engine options including the 4.7-5.5L V8 petrol engine, 3.0L V6 and 4.0L V8 turbo-diesel engines mated to a 7-speed 7G-Tronic automatic transmission. This two petrol engine options include GL450 rating 335 hp and GL500 rating 382 hp. The five diesel engines options: the GL320 CDI with a 3.0L V6 turbo producing 221 hp, the GL350 CDI with a 3.0L V6 producing 181-261 hp, the GL350 CDI Bluetec with a 3.0L V6 turbo producing 208 hp, and the GL420 CDI and GL450 CDI with a 4.0L V8 twin-turbo producing 302 hp. 

Interior

 

Mercedes-Benz GL-Class offers enough room and luxurious yet comfortable sitting arrangement. It comes with 8-way power-adjustable front seats with flexible seats that can be folded to create more room to load in cargo. It also equipped with a fixed-glass rear sunroof, multifunctional buttons on the steering wheel, 6-DVD/CD changer and a memory card reader, HD Radio stations with over 130 channels of SiriusXM Satellite Radio, iPod integration, and a 4GB music Register. 


The X164 is also fitted with safety and security features incluing Bi-Xenon headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps and taillamps, Blind Spot Assist, a PRE-SAFE system, an Emergency-sensing system with an Electronic Stability Program and a Brake Assist, Nine standard airbags, and a Post-collision response.

 

Second Generation: X166

Mercedes-Benz GL-Class second generation entered the market in 2013 - 2019 with 4 engine options paired either with a 7-speed 7G-Tronic or 9-speed 9G Tronic automatic transmission. This generation comes with petrol and diesel engines. Petrol engines include the GL350 with a 3.0L V6 twin-turbo engine producing 329 hp, the GL450 with a 4.7L V8 or 3.0L V6 twin-turbo engine producing 362 hp, the GL550 producing 429-449 hp, and the GL63 producing 550-577 hp. 

Interior

The second generation offers a much better experience with a spacious luxury interior with EASY-ENTRY feature, a reclining or folding 2nd and 3rd row while maintaining an elegant luxury experience, and . It is also equipped with the Rear Seat Entertainment system with dual inputs, wireless remotes, and wireless headsets.
