Manufacturing Process of Indian Hair Extensions

Human hair has become a major commodity across the globe. It is a billion dollar industry that is quite popular among the African American population, where the growth rates are seen in double digits annually. Natural human hair extensions are popular among the millennials worldwide, and women who want to add volume and change their looks now and again are more inclined towards using human hair extensions than ever before.

There are many types of human hair extensions, but one such popular hair extensions across the globe are Indian Hair Extensions. Indian hairs are naturally bouncy, airy, and come in various shades of colors. Indian Remy hairs are most sought-after due to its virgin, untreated qualities, and great length. By the time it reaches to the end customer, the hair goes under some sort of treatment such as re-dyeing, removal of color, and change of texture to match American and European styles.

So, let’s take a look at the steps involved in manufacturing process of Indian Hair Extensions:

1. Selection of Indian Virgin Remy Hairs

This is the first step of manufacturing any hair extension for that matter. One has to carefully select the hairs that are of highest quality. For example, Indian Hairs are usually sourced from temples across the country, as it is a religious practice for both men and women to offer their hairs regularly. So, when Indian hairs are shaved from a woman’s head, they are carefully segregated in different lengths and sizes and ensuring the cuticles are intact and run in the same direction.

2. Arranging and Washing Indian Hairs

The next step is to arrange the Indian Hairs that are procured in bulk. Indian Hairs are arranged according to its length, texture, color, and natural shine. The reason being, some women prefer long hair with varying lengths and also due to different textures. The arranged Indian Hairs are then sent for soaking, which is usually done by mixing it with conditioners and hair detergents to remove dirt and oil. The soaked hairs are then washed multiple times and sent for drying.

3. Proper Drying of Indian Hairs

This process of drying is crucial post washing as it helps Indian Hairs to become less coarse and be softer in nature. Usually drying is carried out using natural sunlight rather than heater as it gives an indifferent odor to the hairs. It is during the drying process that the actual texture of the hair becomes more apparent and is easier to segregate.

4. Hackling and Stocking of Indian Hairs

Post drying process, highly trained professionals then start ‘Hackling,’ i.e., to arrange the Indian virgin hairs according to varied sizes. It is here where extreme caution is observed by the professionals to ensure the head, and the ends of hairs are not mixed. Even after extreme caution, usually, 15% - 20% of hairs are lost in this process. But, at Lene Hair, we ensure the loss of hairs during this stage is almost negated and loss of hairs is just 2%.

Hackled hairs are then stocked according to varied sizes for next stages such as coloring, bleaching, and wefting. It is here where the hairs get different styles such as wavy, curly, straight, and more.

5. Removing Colours and Dyeing of Indian Remy Hairs

Indian Remy hairs usually do not need dying, coloring, and perming as they retain their natural colors and texture beautifully. But, to suit different market needs and styles, Indian hairs undergo some sort of treatment where artificial colors if any are removed from them, and re-dyed to suit demographic needs of customers worldwide.

6. Sewing of Indian Hairs to give a required outlook

The next step is to sew Indian hairs in different forms such as bonds or weaves. Usually, the technique used to sew Indian Virgin Hairs is by double needle sewing technique to ensure the durability of weaves. These weaves are sewed in different measurements to ensure the product caters to a wider audience worldwide.

7. The packaging of Indian Virgin Hair Extensions

This is the last step of the manufacturing process of Indian Hair Extensions. Post sewing of Indian hairs it is shampooed and washed again to give its natural shine and texture. The hair extensions are then packaged and maintained at right temperatures post which they are distributed to customers across the globe.

Producing high-quality Indian Hair Extensions is a complicated process which requires the utmost attention at all times.
