Love your job: Easier said than done

by Elissa Joyce I am a content Writer.
So you have stepped out of the college and backing yourself with the prestigious degrees, you are out in the corporate world to hunt for a respective and lucrative job. Some lucky souls (the creamy layer) doesn’t even have to bother about the job-hunt part as they are coming out of their colleges with the attractive on-campus placements in their pockets. No matter what the case would be, you have ended up in getting a good (you believe so) job. Now, what’s next?

We all must have heard interminable seminars, read numerous bestseller books by the world renowned motivational writers and speakers on the ‘Love what you do’ theme. But the evil truth is that to find love in what one’s doing for bread and better or doing only what one loves in the first place, both are not an easy presents to obtain. Just look around and we’ll find numerous professionals who haven’t yet found peace with their work. It is a choice one has to make early in life as it will determine your entire destiny. Some take the paths set by the society (friends’, family’s opinions) and some dare to challenge the prevailing norms.

Finding love at what you do is often easier said than done. There are instances where you might love your work but there are other monsters at play that succumb the love out of your job, for example unreasonable and cruel boss, non-supportive and passionless colleagues, people with crab mentality around you, et cetera. But all these elements are common place and one needs to adjust oneself and loving the work remains to be the only important phenomenon. Remember, you spend a big chunk of your life’s time at your work and you will have to make sure that you are happy during that time. Else, it will affect the other crucial aspects of life (health, relationships, et cetera) as well.

It is an illusion that happiness is the byproduct of success (professional) because the reverse is actually true. If you are happy with your job, you’ll put all your efforts into it and do more than what is normally expected from you and that will change the entire scenario. You will perform beyond set measures and get promoted out of time which will in turn boost yourself up and you’ll be productive for the company and the society at large.

Economic development of the nation starts with an individual’s development. If each individual would perform to the best of his abilities, there is no doubt that the country’s economy will not take an upward sloping curve (We all know the case of Japan who’s achievements in spite of the nuclear attacks is worth the mention everywhere whenever ‘the economic prosperity of the nation’ is in perspective). Every individual has an inevitable contribution to make.

It is better you start loving what you do or start doing what you love at the earliest. If you are not sure about the love quotient in your work, leave it, because at the end of the day your performance has to speak for yourselves. Without the positive results, the only ones to believe in you would be your parents, that too if you are lucky. If you have the guts and believe yourselves, you can always start your own business as well like click job fair. People might discourage you but just then remind yourself of the Bill gates, Steve Jobs, Warren buffets of the world.

“When I went in the woods I had two paths to choose from, and I took the one less travelled by.
