Los Angeles Architectural Homes in High Demand

by Sandy Clark Writer

Los Angeles is a dream city and is the most popular American city after New York. It boasts of an amalgam of architectural styles--Spanish Revival, Art Deco, coffee-shop kitsch, postmodern and suburban ranch among others.

Surrealist Character

In Los Angeles you can sense an air of Hollywood surreality even in the architecture too. Such larger than life, cutting-edge, over-the-top style building structures may look odd elsewhere, but Los Angeles celebrates it.

Great architects loved that city. Top architects Frank Lloyd Wright to Frank Gehry relocated to L.A to enjoy its artistic freedom. For two decades from 1946 the Arts and Architecture magazine put the spotlight on L.A. with its "Case Study Houses’ series.

Architectural Homes

The hills around Hollywood and Griffith Park are the hub of architectural homes in Los Angeles built in the 1920's and 1930's and known as the Golden Era in Hollywood. They are in big demand now. Bel Air and Beverly Hills also have such structures. Most of the LA architectural homes are classic and flaunt Mediterranean and Spanish influences. Other notable architectural influences include Georgian, Tudor, Neoclassical and Chateau styles.

Prime Areas

The residential real estate of Los Angeles is concentrated in two areas

  • Hollywood Hills: The 20 mile stretch between Downtown area and Griffith Park. From there it extends to the Pacific Ocean.
  • The second area is the areas from Palos Verdes to Malibu.

You can also see large Los Angeles homes located in the areas

  • Palisades
  • Bel Air
  • West Hollywood
  • Los Feliz
  • Beverly Hills

In fact these are southern California’s luxury properties and the centre piece of real estate. Providing privacy and land space they deserve to be truly luxurious with amazing views to the sea and the glorious downtown. The ‘modern homes’ in the hills and upper western side of southern California were constructed mainly during the 1940's and 50s.
