Leather & Its Types

On the basis of the quality of leather, it has been segregated into different types such as full grain, top grain, genuine/corrected grain, and bonded leather. The quality of the leather varies from one another. So, choosing the best quality leather product is a difficult task and requires a complete understanding of the same. One should check the below-mentioned factors before choosing any type of leather products:

  • A layer of the hide that has been used for the production of the goods should be of an excellent quality such as top grain, full grain, and split.

  • A portion of the hide from which the leather was cut is also important to consider. Like the upper part of the animal is divided into three types best, good, & fair quality. Do not go for the poor quality ever.

  • Also, check the quality and skill of the tanning and processing of the leather.

The Types

As mentioned before, leather is divided into different types as per which a particular product should be considered worthy of investment. The types are:

  • Full Grain Leather: This lather is derived from the top layer of the hide which includes all the grain. Thus, it has been entitled with “full grain leather”. This type retains the natural toughness and the imperfections as there is no surface splitting or alteration is done. It is thus considered as the highest quality leather. It is the perfect leather for Saddleback. Goods made using this leather are expensive but durable and valuable.

  • Top Grain Leather: The top grain is the second best quality of leather. The surface of this leather has stains and pigmentation that offers an attractive look to it. This leather is smooth and more flexible than the full grain. This leather is used for the production of suede and nubuck. Thus, handbags, jackets, and other high-quality products are made using this fabric.

  • Corrected Grain Leather: The corrected grain leather is also known as genuine leather. It is produced using the skin layers that are left after the top is split off. The natural imperfections are removed by sanding.

  • Bonded Leather: The bonded leather is made from the leftovers which includes shavings and dust. It is bonded with polyurethane or latex and spray-painted so as to give the look of full or top grain. This one is the lowest grade. Thus, the goods made using this is also cheap.

Leather goods remain very much in demand all the time. Products like wallets, card holders, passport holders, belts, etc., which are made using leather are highly preferred over the other materials. One can find leather goods suppliers in Dubai or any other place by browsing the internet.
