Jaun Eliya Poetry and Urdu Language
by Syed Azeem Haider SEO AnalystJaun Eliya is one of the most
remarkable modern Pakistani poets, popular for his unconventional way of
writing. His poetry completely
depends upon a reader’s perception and his approach towards it. Reading Jaun
Eliya’s work leaves a reader possibly in two states either one will love him or
discard him fully. Jaun Eliya does not
effort to take a reader with him but the reader will have to keep stride with
him.His poetry expresses unfulfilled love, melancholy, loneliness, hopelessness
and frustrating state of human mind while using simple form and language. Poet Pirzada Qasim said: “Jaun was very
particular about language. While his diction is rooted in the classical
tradition, he touches on new subjects. He remained in quest of an ideal all his
life. Unable to find the ideal eventually, he became angry and frustrated. He
felt, perhaps with reason, that he had misused his talent”. He was fluent in Urdu, Arabic, English, Persian, Sanskrit and Hebrew. Despite his peculiar style of
expression he earned immense fame in Urdu poetry. He used Nazm and Ghazal as a
form of poetry to express his frenzy feelings. Ya'ani (2003), Gumaan (2004),
Lekin (2006) Gooya (2008) are some of his renowned poetic works which made him
a popular poet of Pakistan.
