With a lot of electric appliances taking up their spaces in our house, fan is an irreplaceable one. It is one of the appliance that is utilized through out the year. Be it the scorching summer or the moist monsoon a fan will most likely be in use. Apart from providing us wind, it has got many other benefits such as producing white noise that helps us to get better sleep, improves ventilation and even helps  remove odours from your home. Fans are more cost effective and convenient than other cooling appliances and hence easy on our pocket. As we put it into constant use, it is important for us to keep an eye on it from time to time. Make sure to repair or replace your fan if you witness any of the following signs.

Lights Flicker

Some ceiling fans come with lights and it may flicker often. Most of the time only the bulb may have to be replaced. However, this is not always the sole cause. Sometimes a flickering bulb in your ceiling fan could indicate a loose connection either within the bulb or the entire fixture. A more severe cause may also be voltage fluctuation. Certain appliances take up a lot more power than others. If you notice  your ceiling fan light flicker when you turn on the washing machine, you can conclude that it is voltage fluctuation. Contact an electrician and get this problem fixed, otherwise it might damage your several appliances at a go.

Wobbling

At times you may feel like your fan might fall on your head. Wobbling is one of the most common problems of a ceiling fan and there are three main reasons for it , poor quality ceiling fan, incorrect installation or has one or more damaged blades. A bent or loose connection can also be a reason for it. This may occur in the blade brackets, box screws, down rod or any other connected part. Frequent use in the long run can lead to these connections to loose their grip causing a wobbly ceiling fan.

Noisy

If your ceiling fan is causing a lot of noise apart from the normal mild noise, then you need to look into it. A crying ceiling fan indicates a loose connections in either your fan fixture or box. When you fan operates these parts clash together producing an unpleasant clamour. It can also point towards the ball bearings. These are what makes your fan rotate and it’s important to clean and lubricate them adequately to ensure there is no friction or resistance creating this noise.

Single Speed

If speed is your problem, then most probably your fan works only on a single speed setting when turned on. This can be caused by a rusty, non lubricated ball bearings or by a defective fan. A overheating motor or a failing capacitator  could also be the culprit for this inconvenience. Remove your fan and check thoroughly and get it fixed or replace it in the place of a defective fan.

Not working

If you notice your ceiling fan has stopped working or is not turning on, it could be because of some obstruction in the flow of electricity. It may be because of the circuit breaker has tripped or is off. After checking the panel if the Circuit breaker appears fine, it may be indicative of loose wiring and poor connectivity. Certain internal defects such as small ball bearing or overheated motor could also make your fan jammed.
