Introducing the History and Specifications of the Subaru Legacy

The Subaru Legacy is an all-wheel-drive, midsize car introduced in 1989 and is presently in its seventh generation. In 1996, a new version called the Legacy Outback with heightened suspension was released and was a success in the American market.

B4 and Touring Wagon

The third-generation model was produced in 1998 while in 2000, the new sports sedan Subaru Legacy B4 was released. The B4 and Touring wagon is equipped with 2.0L (EJ20 / FA20), 2.5L (EJ25 / FB25), and 3.0-liter (EZ30) H6 engine. 

Fourth-generation (2003-2009)

The fourth-generation was released with a redesigned and much stiffer chassis. The wagon has a 459L boot space with split-folding seats, a 433L cargo space for sedans, and a 64L fuel tank capacity for the Legacy.

The fourth generation is equipped with a 2.0L EJ20 H4, 2.5L EJ255 H4, and a 3.0L EZ30 H6 engine, with a five / six-speed manual, semi-automatic, four / five-speed automatic, and CVT. The 2.0i trim is fitted with the EJ20 SOHC engine produces a power of 105kW (138hp);  the 2.0GT trim with EJ20 DOHC turbocharged engine produces a power of 209kW (276hp); the 2.0R trim is fitted with a DOHC engine with a power of 123kW (163hp); the 3.0R trim is powered by the new EZ30 H6 engine with 187kW (247hp). 

Fifth-generation (2009-2014)

The fifth generation is more spacious and offers enough headroom and legroom. Also includes multiple cabin storage and glove box for storing items and added features such as side window frames, electric parking brake, and lineartronic CVT. The CVT comes with a 2.5L EJ25 engine and a 2.0L EJ20 engine while the 2.5L GT uses a turbocharger and a six-speed MT.

Sixth-generation (2014-2019)

The sixth-generation is available with a climate-control system, 7-inch touchscreen, 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, heated front seats, power-adjustable seat, blind-spot detection system, EyeSight safety system, and push-button start with keyless entry. 

It is equipped with a 2.5L FB25 H4 with a power of 130kW (170hp); 3.6L EZ36D H6 produces 19kW (252hp), with automatic and lineartronic CVT. The fuel economy for the 2.5i achieves 13.6 km/L, the 2.5GT achieves 9.4 km/L, and the 3.6R achieves 10.7 km/L.

Seventh-generation

The current Legacy has a larger cabin with a new design, an advanced interior, function, and high-quality materials. The Limited and Touring versions come with leather upholstery, manual thigh extension for the driver’s seat, driver aids, safety, and features. 

It is fitted with a 2.5L H4 engine with power and torque of 182hp, 176lb-ft; 2.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged with 260hp and 277 lb-ft torque. The fuel consumption for the non-turbo achieves 12.7Km/L combined and for turbocharged are 11.4Km/L. 

Final Verdict

The Subaru Legacy is one of the great station wagons in the market with only a few rivals that can match its abilities and features either off-road or on-road.
