Model United Nations, also known as MUN, is an academic simulation in which students find themselves in the shoes of international ambassadors who represent various countries of the world in different UN organs and specialized agencies. It is an extracurricular activity which takes place at MUN conferences, usually organized by high schools or college MUN clubs. The participants, also regarded as ‘Munners,’ have the opportunity to draft resolutions and find solutions to global issues.

The aim of the United Nations is to prevent conflicts and promote international peace and cooperation. It is a forum that allows representatives of various countries to let their stance on various issues be known and eventually arrive at a common resolution after several discussions. Numerous organs of the United Nations help facilitate its smooth functioning and likewise, numerous committees in a MUN ensure its efficiency.

What does it take to be a ‘Munner’? Soft skills such as research, communication, critical thinking, creativity, teamwork and leadership abilities help a student to excel when it comes to Munning. A MUN is all about cooperation and not about competition. As a delegate, one is expected to play his/her part by sticking to the foreign policies with respect to the country he/she represents, but should also know when to compromise with others to arrive at a collective resolution that results in the success of the committee’s objectives.

This is a learning experience which is as important as any other academic qualification due to the important educational value it attaches to a student’s life.

Cathedral Vidya School Lonavala, best boarding schools in Maharashtra conducted its first Model United Nations Conference in the year 2011 and has been promoting students all over Maharashtra to be a part of this heuristic experience ever since.

This year, in the 8th annual edition of CIMUN, we have 8 different committees with their respective agendas to make the youth of this day involve itself in global conversations of under importance.

We are also conducting an International Press Corps conference for the first time which will occur on the second evening of our prestigious conference. Through this, we hope to enhance the role of the press and involve the chairs and co-chairs into the affairs of the conference even more and thus, increase the responsibilities their role encompasses.

We hope to welcome several schools this time and ensure to provide a memorable learning experience that proves to be embedded in the minds of its participants.
