Intel Security Flaw: ASUS & Gigabyte Motherboards Fix

What are the Security Vulnerabilities for These Processors?

If Intel recommended Flash protections are enabled in your processors, any outsider or hacker can easily get physical access to your platform’s firmware Flash. This access can be enabled by updating the platform manually using a malicious image via a Flash programmer that is connected physically to the Flash memory of the platform.

The write-protection can be understood as a platform setting made by the manufacturer in the last stages of production. This protection helps in saving the flash settings from any attack after the manufacturing process. If this setting is not enabled in a product, the attackers can use Operating Kernel Access to exploit the vulnerabilities in the platform.

Due to this vulnerability, the attackers can copy TXE/ ME/ SPS to affect the local security attestation in your system. It can cause a crash or instability in the system by loading and executing an arbitrary code. Hence, it is essential to remove this flaw when you get a gaming desktop affected by Intel security vulnerabilities.

ASUS Motherboard Fixes:

ASUS has recently released a solution in the form of ME Update Tool for fixing this problem. This tool should be extracted and run using a USB thumb drive for effective results. You can download the file and launch the updates from the USB drive to patch the vulnerability by fixing necessary software.

Gigabyte Motherboard Fixes:

A BIOS update has been released by Gigabyte to patch this Intel vulnerability. The company is also providing a guide for completing this update successfully. You should carefully follow the guide to avoid system damages and rectify the issues with your gaming desktop.
