Hypnosis: Going Beyond the Conscious Mind to Achieve Your Goals

by Sunil Jain astropodmatch

We all remember the old movies of someone dangling a pocket watch in front of someone’s face as their eyes glaze over.  The mantra, “you are getting sleepy”, is repeated until the person closes their eyes and their mind becomes completely in control by the other person.  The viewer then witnesses the hypnotist making their subject act like a chicken or act a silly way when they hear the word “stop”, “red” or something similar.  This is usually intended to make the audience laugh, however, this misrepresentation of hypnosis has given it the stigma of nothing more than a carnival act and not a true method toward self-improvement.

Dr. David Spiegal, the Associate Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University says, “hypnosis is literally the oldest western conception of psychotherapy.  It’s been around for close to 300 years, but we still keep viewing it as weird.”  Determined to change the image of hypnosis, Stanford University is using the most cutting-edge imaging tools to figure out the science behind it.  In one such experiment, students were connected to a brain imaging machine whilst looking at a black and white picture. Under hypnosis, the students were told that the picture was in fact in color and the brain scans showed that the areas of the brain which process color became active when that suggestion was made. While studying patients of the practice, hypnosis has been shown to relieve muscle tension, lower heart rate, lower blood pressure and reduce anxiety.

Hypnosis can be categorized as being in a state of trance.  This idea is often thought of as a person who is glossed over, or glassy-eyed, unable to notice the world around them, but in actuality, it is a focused state of attention.  If you can think of a time when you were lost deep in thought of a distant memory, swept up in the haunting sound of your favorite opera, or immersed deep in a book you were reading, you would be considered in a state of trance or hypnotized.

People can use hypnosis in many ways.  Many have found success in reducing their anxiety, calming a restless body and lifting their mood.  Others use hypnosis to stop a destructive action or addiction they may be facing such as overeating, smoking or dealing with a phobia.  In today’s world when there are so many distractions happening around us at all times, people may not be able to focus their mind on their own.  Thankfully there are professional hypnotists that can assist their clients in tapping into their unconscious mind.

Psychologist John Kihlstrom says, “the hypnotist does not hypnotize the individual.  Rather, the hypnotist serves as a sort of coach or tutor whose job is to help the person become hypnotized.” Finding a qualified person to lead you on your journey can seem daunting.  It is important to find a hypnotist who is experienced and dedicated to the belief that the mind can do powerful things and not someone who views themselves as the tool to get you there.  Trudy Beers, Ph.D.(Doctor of Clinical Hypnosis & Alternative Healing), Certified Master Hypnotist, Master Neuro-linguistic Programmer & Reiki Master, has been studying her craft for over 30 years.  She founded the Tribeca Hypnosis and Healing Institute in 1998, to teach people in the healing business of NYC hypnosis as an alternative technique.  She has been one of the leading doctor-referred hypnotists in NYC and has dedicated her life to helping others tap into their potential.

Trudy Beers: All of us have the same desires for Happiness, Love, Peace, Health, & Prosperity. Those evil-mongers, Anger, Guilt, Shame & Fear that lurk in our subconscious result from negative life experiences & people that we let sidetrack our lives. I have seen these Alternative Therapies have amazing results in one session…This is why I am so passionate about the endless possibilities with my work… The mind has so many dimensions and can create new patterns of behavior by releasing negative blocks & reprogramming positive information. I have seen people be totally transformed both mentally and physically by behavior changes shifted with these methods.

Working in private sessions, Trudy can focus all of her talents solely on helping one client at a time, unlock the abilities of their mind.  There is no time like the present to escape a life that is shackled down by fear, negative thoughts and guilt.  Let hypnosis NYC free your mind today.
