How to Troubleshoot Gateway Authentication Failure?

by June Reeve Content Marketer

If you’re trying to connect to the internet using a U-verse router, you might sometimes encounter an authentication failure error. The error indicates either an error in your router’s configuration or a build-up of corrupt launch configurations by the router. In some cases, your router might even get corrupted because of sudden shutdowns, which can prevent it from connecting to the internet.

In this blog, we’re looking at several solutions to get rid of the gateway authentication failure issue.

Steps to Troubleshoot Gateway Authentication Failure Issue

Follow the below methods to eliminate gateway authentication failure issues.

1.    Power Cycle your Router

One possible cause of the issue is when the internet cache built by the router over time gets corrupted. To reset this cache, we have to power cycle the router.

First of all, from the wall socket, unplug your router.

Then, press down the power button for at least 15 seconds.

Now, plug in back your router and turn on the power.

This is one of the easiest solutions that can get just about any router up and running.

2.    Check the Connection Cables & ONT Port

For some users, the “gateway authentication failure error” may occur due to a loose wire or because the Ethernet cable is not connected to the right ONT Port. Refer to the user guidelines and connect the required cables to the correct Ports to solve this problem. Additionally, loose wire/cable connections may also cause this issue. For this situation, you have to perform a thorough and careful check for all wire connections, battery unit status, surge protectors, and other equipment.

3.    Troubleshoot using the "MyAT&T" App

To solve the errors of the U-Verse modem, AT&T has launched a mobile app called "myAT&T," which assists customers in solving various issues without contacting customer support. This application runs tests on your modem service and shows on-screen solutions that users can follow and fix most of the errors.

4.    Check for an Outage.

Another possible reason for the issue could be an outage at AT&T's end. In such cases, all you can do is contact your service provider for an exact ETA when services resume.

Also, since these solutions are primarily generic, you can try them on any other router to resolve any connectivity issues you’re facing.
