How to surge your ROI through iPhone app development

by Manish Jain Managing Director

Everyone who uses a smart phone knows that it is indeed the apps that enable a seemingly silent piece of hardware to act “smart”. From simply listening to music to clicking pictures to creating presentation slides, you are essentially interacting with one app or another. And thus, the smart phone addiction we all feel and talk about, can be easily traced back to the apps we have installed on our phones. Simply put, what is generally perceived as the smart phone revolution of 21st century can be more aptly categorized as the mobile app revolution.

Now unless you live under a rock, you may know that there is virtually a duopoly of Android and iOS in the smart phone industry, with Android leading with over 88% market share and almost the rest being acquired by iOS. Looking at this data, it seems only plausible for the developers to create products and services for Android to ensure maximum returns. But here is the tricky part- though Android outnumbers iOS 8:1 in terms of user-base, the lions’ share of profits are actually reaped by iOS. There are various reasons for this imbalance- some of which will be discussed later.

One thing you need to learn from it is that if you are looking to make money, iPhone app development is where your focus should be.

Though iOS controls only around 12-15% of the smart phone market, it is actually where the premium users are. Known for its highly-polished products and top-notch services, iPhones are the gadgets for elite- who are known to spend lavishly on apps as well. Along with this bonus of high-end consumer-base, iOS also has many other appealing factors that make it the ideal platform from which iPhone developers can expect exponential returns on their investment. Some of which include:

1. Streamlined development

One of the key highlights of iPhone app development is the tight integration between hardware and software. Since both these factors are controlled by Apple Inc., it provides a clear road map for the developers to design and implement their apps accordingly.

2. Periodic updates

Unlike the fragmented space of Android, where each vendor releases their updates separately, iOS follows a strict update cycle, which clearly defines the compatibility to help developers tailor to app owner’s requirements.

3. Closed Ecosystem

Since iOS relies on a closed ecosystem with the company controlling and nurturing a host of other services, you can easily leverage their expertise to boost the productivity and efficiency of your own app.

4. Less clutter

Unlike Google Play store, where your app may stay unidentified among thousands of mediocre applications, iTunes is known for its strict review process that eliminates such apps from the beginning and tries to create a leveled field for all worthy competitors.

5. One-version-for-all

Android, which runs on hundreds of models from over a dozen of different companies, is often a compatibility nightmare for developers. iOS, on other hand, with its handful of devices requires only one version of the app and consequently has fewer bugs.

6. Long lasting customers

Owing to the closed ecosystem the company has created, iOS users are often known to be loyal and are most likely to stick to the platform- either by choice or by the lack of it. So, once you bond with an iOS user for your service, a long-lasting relationship is guaranteed.

To sum up, though iOS users are fewer in number than Android aficionados , they are the ones with heavy pockets. Also, the clear guidelines and active support by Apple Inc. make it easier for the iPhone developers to create apps for the platform in minimal time.

Now, if you combine these two factors, what you get is a recipe for making some quick money.
