A little pain here and then is a part of any sport that an athlete indulges in. However, it is of the utmost importance to be aware of the kind of pain one is facing. Here are a few things one needs to keep in mind about recognizing both good and bad pain.

When an athlete works out, plays their sport and then even when they are resting post all this, the chances of them experiencing a slight discomfort and soreness and pain is normal. This is mainly due to the fact the muscles, in order to gain strength most a rigorous session will see at least some increase in stress thus causing pain.

This is the “burn” that most people feel even post a tough workout session. Now this is what we mean by ‘good’ pain. Same goes for when one experiences pain tiredness and fatigue after a workout. However, this is kind of fatigue that should make you feel full of energy and leave you buzzing and not make you feel like you are half-dead.

Now, just to clear a few doubts up, let us have a look at some of the most common signs of bad pain.

Signs of bad pain:

As mentioned earlier, pain can be due to the fact that muscles are gaining strength and thus, the pain is understandable. However, here is a look at some of the basic signs of bad pain

Muscle soreness that sets in a day or two after the workout. This is also known as delayed onset muscle soreness and could also point towards actual muscle damage.

Let us now take the example of tendons that essentially connect the muscles to the bone. Too much stress on the tendons when experienced too quickly could very well cause irritation to them. What happens next is that they become inflamed causing pain and swelling.

This was all about the muscles and tendons. Now let us come to bones. Like every other part of your body, bones too need their fair share of time to respond well to the kind of stress and rigor that they might be being put through. When a bone is being put through stress our body automatically starts placing more bone on top of it. However, this could very well fail if the stress is too much and too fast in nature. Any pain that an athlete can feel along a pain could be the first sign of a bad pain for the bone. If not heeded, then this could result in a stress fracture to the bone.

From muscles and tendons and bones to the cartilage! The many cartilages in our body helps the bones in our body move over each other smoothly without causing any stress to one another. It is also common knowledge that as a person ages, the cartilage do see their fair share of wear and tear. But if they end up seeing a lot of stress too fast, then it results in pain and even the accumulation of fluid in the joints. If you observe swelling in the joints, then the chances that the cartilage is facing issues could be a reason.

Treatment:

Of the many things that one can do to ensure that they steer clear or at the very least reduce the bad pain, are that they rest the limb that is experiencing the bad pain. However, if the pain does not seem to be going down or is getting worse, then the choice of visiting a doctor would be the best to consider. There are many advanced pain management centres, sports injury treatment centre and pain management services Delhi offers so one need not look far for the same.
