How to set up AVG email Scanner for Gmail

Kindly note that the set up procedure given here by the AVG customer support team applies to AVG antivirus or AVG Internet Security products! Also note that the instructions given in this article are applicable only when you are using an email client application like Windows mail.

AVG is a well-renowned antivirus developed and distributed by AVG technologies. This antivirus is used by millions of customers all over the world. Available for Windows, Mac and mobile devices, AVG antivirus range has been tailored to suit the specific requirements of different customers. Apart from offering endpoint protection to the devices, it also secures email used by the users. You can easily protect your emails such as Gmail or AOL using an AVG antivirus product.

For this, all you need to do is set up the AVG protection for the emails on your Gmail account by following these steps:

1.       Open the AVG antivirus installed on your device

2.       Click Advanced Settings available under the Options menu

3.       Expand email protection from the left tree

4.       Now expand the sub-category email protection

5.       Double-click the Servers

6.       Now, choose POP3

7.       Click Add new server and give it a suitable name

8.       Hit OK

9.       Modify the settings according to the following:

a.       Kind of login- Fixed host; fill in pop.gmail.com

b.      Local Port- 5100

c.       Connection- Secure to regular port

10.   Hit Apply to save these changes!

11.   Choose SMTP under Servers

12.   Click Add New Server, once again

13.   Name the Server and click Ok

Once you are done, the AVG email scanner can communicate with Gmail server using SSL encryption. For any reason, if you face any difficulty in the set up, call AVG customer support number. After this you need to set up your email program to connect to AVG. For this, do the following settings:

 Settings for POP3:

·         Server: 127.0.0.1

·         Encryption: NONE (SSL disabled)

·         Port: 5100

·         Username: Your Gmail email address

·         Password: Your Gmail email account password

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) Settings

·         Server: 127.0.0.1

·         Port: 5200

·         Encryption: NONE (SSL disabled)

·         Authentication: yes

·         Username: Your Gmail email address

·         Password: Your Gmail email account password

After following the aforementioned settings, if you are unable to set up the AVG email scanner for Gmail, call AVG support number. A support technician will immediately help you.
