How To Protect Your Furniture
by Qarah Ict Qarah ICTThere's nothing as tacky about a home as dirty and worn-out
furniture. Many people will buy good furniture but let it run down by lack of
know-how or sheer negligence in protecting it. The furniture may be tattered by
heavy and abusive use in other cases. If the furniture is of low quality, it
breaks down very quickly.
Décor furniture, especially covered in upholstery, can get
dirty quickly if not cared for well or exposed to dust and mud. Sofas, beds,
and other furniture-covered upholstery risk fading with time if left in severe
sunlight.
Any furniture shop that sells scruffy chic will have some
tips to share on protecting their despicable décor furniture.
Fabric Protection
Stains and spills can be eschewed using spray fabric protectors; these can be applied when the upholstery is installed. You purchased your furniture to be lived on. So live on it. The laws of chaos theory state that spills, accidents, and parties that get out of hand can and will occur. You shouldn't worry about your furniture to the point that you forget it is just furniture.
Using fabric protection
can give you that rest of mind you need to enjoy yourself and let your
furniture be furniture. There is virtually no investment in a fabric protection
spray; it's not an issue.
Cleaning
Upholstery should be dry-cleaned at least once weekly, and
the loose covers laundered weekly. Dirt that has fallen in hard-to-reach places
like crevices under cushions should also be cleared with a narrow object.
Reshuffle or rearrange furniture
To avoid one item being used regularly and wearing out
faster than the rest, rearrange the furniture at least once in six months.
Caring for pillows
Pillows or cushions that remain at one point for a long time
tend to sink as they get sat on day after day. It is essential to rotate them
and flip them to another spot.
Rest covers
Chair backs, headrests, and armrests wear out faster than
the rest of the parts. They also get dirty more quickly as they contact hair
and bare skin. Getting a cover for the rest in the same color is advisable.
These covers are barely noticeable but very effective in protecting the
upholstery fabric.
Washable slipcovers are perfect to use in warm weather as
they can be easily washed while effectively protecting the furniture against
spills and stains.

Caring for bare wood
A wet cloth should wipe off dust and other stains on bare
furniture parts. Dusting regularly is advised to prevent the dust from clotting
into a hard coat that is harder to get off.
Using wax or polish, you can select to renew the shine on
bare wood. Applying polish is more straightforward, but polish can cake up if applied
too often. Wax can be rinsed off with oil soap and applied to a new coat.
When the upholstery gets too old, you can always return to
the store and purchase more shabby chic items for new distressed home décor.
