How to Pay at a Public EV Charging Station in India?

by Griden Power Energy Efficient EV Charging Systems Provider
The number of EVs on Indian roads can be seen increasing day by day. So is the EV charging network. We may see innovations and technological reforms in the coming years, but as of now, EV owners need to leverage the charging solutions at their disposal. This also implies charging payments.

Currently, any EV charging manufacturer in India provides two alternatives for the public to charge their EVs. In this article, however, we will put forth three ways in which you can power up your electric vehicle. So, read on.

No1. Charge from your app
Whether you want to use a public charging station or a private charger, an AC or a DC fast charger, you need to download the EV charging app of that EV charging manufacturer. After installing the app on your smartphone, you need to register your EV in it.

Now, you will be able to locate nearby chargers and navigate to them but to use them you need to have a minimum balance in your EV wallet. Your charging amount gets deducted from your EV wallet.

No2. RFID card
An RFID card can be issued by an EV charging manufacturer for a public EV charging station or an EV owner. It is authorised after complete verification. A person can apply for it by selecting the option in the charging app.

EV owners can charge using this RFID card if you from their application. But note that, the amount is still deducted from their EV wallet and not from the card or directly from the bank account. So an EV wallet is mandatory. Even if you a Bharat AC 001 charger installed at home, you still need an EV wallet to change your electric vehicle.

No3. Cash payment to the operator
This alternative is not what a provided by manufacturers but it is a possible way to charge your EV. Let’s consider a situation, where you are out to charge your EV and your smartphone battery has died. Now to charge in such a situation, you can make a cash payment to the EV charging operator and they may be able to pay the same amount for you using their RFID card.

As mentioned above, RFID cards are issued to both EV charging stations and EV owners. This requires them to provide drivers with an alternative for easy payment and convenience of use.

Final words
Remember that every EV charging manufacturer has its own app. To be able to use their charging station, you need to download their respective applications and complete the registration process and balance top-up. Whether or not people have centralized solutions lies in the future. Go green!
