How to Make Your Agadir Holidays Worth Cherishing

by Daisy Wilkinson Travel Guides

You'll find it difficult to believe how a city that was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1960 could be rebuilt with such brilliance. Agadir has not only been rebuilt, but is also thriving as a major tourist destination of Morocco with spacious suburbs, a beautiful beach, and an exciting nightlife. Located near the Atlas Mountains on the Atlantic Ocean's shores, this Moroccan city has become one of the country's finest holiday destinations attracting tourists from different parts of the world. Besides its popular tourist attractions, one of the major aspects that draw tourists to the city is the 300 days of sunshine it offers in a year.

The best time to enjoy your Agadir holidays would be the winter season from December to February when the climate is extremely pleasant and favourable for outdoor activities. However, winter is also the busiest tourist season of Agadir and you'll have to book your holiday package or hotel accommodation well in advance if you plan to visit during this time of the year. Another busiest season is summer from June to August. If you wish to get some attractive discounts on room rates of hotels, plan a holiday in spring season between the months of March and May and autumn between September and November.

During your cheap holidays to Agadir, you can spend some pleasant moments on its enchanting beach. You'll have a wonderful time on its long strip of sands during the winter season when skies are clear and there's plenty of sunshine. Upon visiting the city centre, you can explore some fabulous attractions, such as the Grand Mosque. It is quite unique among the other mosques of the country as it features a modernist architectural style. You get some insights into the massive earthquake that had destroyed the city in 1960 upon visiting the Agadir Memorial Museum.

Some exciting outdoor activities can also be enjoyed during your cheap holidays to Agadir. Among them is hiking, which allows you to leave the confines of the city and take a walk through the village of Tiout. You can also take a boat trip on the Atlantic Ocean from the coasts to savour the beautiful views of the city and its surroundings. This trip would give you the opportunity to try fishing and swimming. A quad-biking tour would enable you to embark on an adventurous ride on the sand dunes near the city and witness life in the Berber villages on the way.

While holidaying in this part of Morocco, you can savour some of the delicious varieties of Moroccan cuisine. One of them is Tagine, which is named after the cooking pot made of clay used for preparing this dish. The meat and vegetables are cooked in these clay pots until they're tender and luscious. You can also taste Couscous, which is yet another popular Moroccan dish served with meat or vegetables. Dishes prepared using fresh fish can be enjoyed while in this city, especially owing to its proximity to the coast. Sardines are a popular choice, but you can have mackerel and prawns as well.
