How To Make An Office Space Safe

by Gerry Griffin Owner
It is quite possible for health and safety hazards to exist inconspicuously inside a workplace filled with various electronic devices, documents, boxes, wires and other items. Employees are also needed to engage in varied strenuous work within such office spaces. As such, it is important to take suitable steps in order to create a safe work environment for everyone.

Given below are some preventive measures that can be implemented to ensure safety within an office setting:

Staying Clutter-Free :
Files and boxes piled in the middle of walkways can very well create trip hazards. These materials must be stored safely in their designated storage places for preventing clutter buildup. Mess of tangling wires are also dangerous as they can lead to short circuit and start fires. They must be organised properly with the help of grommets, cable ties and stainless steel floor box.

Maintaining Clear Vision Line :
Employees can collide with one another while making turns around cubicle walls or blind corners and in hallways. Experts suggest that getting convex mirrors installed at intersections can help considerably in reducing collisions. This is because it would allow workers to see someone approaching around the corner.

Getting A Grip :
In order to reduce the chances of falls when workers come in with wet shoes from snow or rain, carpets can be placed near the entrances, especially if the floor is made of tiles or marble. Carpets and other similar flooring materials act like skid-resistant surfaces.

Inspecting Space Heaters :
In case employees are using space heaters, it is important to verify those devices for making sure that they are approved for office use. The heaters must have a switch which automatically deactivates them if they get tipped over. Moreover, steps should also be taken to make sure that the devices are not being powered via an extension cord or kept near combustible items like paper.

Keeping Fire Sprinklers Unblocked :
Tall stacks and materials inside an office setting can block fire sprinklers and prevent them from accessing their complete range, thus reducing their efficiency during an emergency. Therefore, objects should not be kept at a height beyond 18 inches below the sprinklers.

Maintaining Cords :
Cords must be inspected regularly and replaced if they have open wire or get frayed. Besides that, cords should not be used if their third prong has got damaged. They must not be overloading outlets either.

Following the above mentioned tips can help in increasing safety within an office space to a great extent.
