Though plastic grommets are small in size, they are extremely useful for both commercial and domestic purposes. They are easily available in the market and can be useful for cable management. This means that plastic grommets are used as cable grommet to protect the electrical cable wires from getting cut or damaged against sharp wooden or metallic edges. The width and diameter of plastic grommets generally vary from type to type. They are very easy to install and can even be placed by any good DIYer. If you are planning to install plastic grommets, here is what you will need to do:

1. Measurement
In order to start the procedure, first you need to take measurements of the item that is to be fitted with the plastic grommet. This will help you in buying the right product as per the measurements that you have taken and thus, aid in ensuring a successful installation. For example, if you are performing the installation within the hole on the surface of a desk, then first measure the size, breadth and diameter of the hole. Once you have taken the measurements properly, it is very important that you buy an appropriately sized grommet. Alternatively, you can buy the grommet first and then drill a hole according to its dimensions.

2. Cleaning
In case you are having to drill a hole, clear the entire round of the aperture once you are done creating it. Use a clean cotton damp cloth and wipe the dirt, grease and debris away entirely. This will help the plastic grommet to fit into the aperture more easily and securely. Don't forget to wipe the objects such as wires or cables that are going to be placed into the grommet. Dirt and grease that get trapped during the installation process can create bigger and serious problems in future.

3. Installation
After cleaning the aperture to make sure that it is devoid of any dirt or debris, place the grommet carefully inside it. Remove the lid of the grommet once you have placed it securely inside the hole. Now pass the items, likes wires, cables, etc. through it and then replace the snap-on lid. The lid would prevent any dust or dirt from entering the hole and increasing maintenance work.

Thus, by following the above mentioned steps, you can easily install a grommet using a few basic tools such as measuring scale or tape, a marker and a drill. Just make you do not haste while performing the installation, otherwise you may end up with an unsatisfactory outcome.
