How to magnetize Volvo diesel generators?

1.Use the starting battery (12V) of the diesel engine to power on the excitation wire (2 carbon brush wires) for a few seconds. It is better to magnetize it during operation. As soon as the battery contacts the excitation wire, the generator magnetizes and circulates to increase the magnetic field.

2.It should be noted that the time of grounding should not be too long, and that the speed of the diesel engine is slightly higher, it is better to carry a load, and connect an electric lamp, so as to know whether the magnetization is successful at any time.

The reasons of no electricity in Volvo diesel generators:

1.After shutdown, the remanence is often lost because the material used for the exciter pole is close to soft steel, and the remanence is small. When there is no current in the excitation winding after shutdown, the magnetic field disappears.

2.The pole of the generator loses magnetism.

3.The excitation circuit element is damaged or the circuit has open circuit, short circuit or grounding phenomenon.

4.The contact between the exciter brush and the commutator is poor or the brush holder pressure is insufficient.

5.The wiring of excitation winding is wrong and the polarity is opposite.

6.The contact between the brush and the slip ring is poor, or the pressure of the brush is insufficient.

7.Generator stator winding or rotor winding open circuit.

8.The outgoing wire of generator is loose or the switch is in poor contact.

Solution ways:

1.The standing battery shall be magnetized before power generation.

2.In the winding, direct current (short time) larger than the rated current is applied for magnetization, and the specific current is determined by the test.

3.Replace the damaged components and repair the faulty circuit.

4.Remove the sharp dirt on the contact surface, adjust the brush pressure and fasten the brush holder.

5.Correct the wiring and press the correct polarity for magnetization.

6.Remove the sharp dirt on the contact surface, grind the brush, adjust the brush pressure, and make the brush and the slip ring in close contact.

7.Check and repair the open circuit.

8.Connect the connector or repair the contact part of the switch.

9.Find out the cause of the fuse, and replace the specified fuse after determining that the generator itself and the circuit are normal.
