How to Keep a Car Cool Without Air Conditioning

by Novus AutoGlass Novus Auto Glass

There are several things that you can do to keep your car cool without air conditioning.  You should plan on taking action on your car both before you drive and while driving.  The good news is that you CAN survive in a car without air conditioning.

The first thing that you need to do is keep your car parked either in a garage or under a carport.  Parking your car in shaded areas will also aid the cooling of your car.  There are even more pre-driving steps that you can take to aid in cooling your car.

To cool the inside of your car, try using a sunshade or visor to block the sun coming in the windscreen.  Add a dash cover and even put a damp cloth over your steering wheel.  All these steps will aid in cooling before you ever get on the road.

If you begin driving, think about putting a pan of ice in the floorboard of your car where the air from the lower vents will blow over the ice.  You can further utilize the vents of your car by putting a wet washcloth over the upper vents to cool the air coming into your car.   These steps should help especially if you are in slow driving situations.

Of course, if you are out on the open road, open your windows to increase airflow.  Moving air will help even if it is hot air.  Best bet is to try a combination of all of the above.

In addition to keeping your car itself cool without air conditioning, there are a few tips that you can use to keep yourself cool while travelling in a car without air conditioning.  First, be sure and keep yourself well hydrated.  Second, try putting cold wet towels or cloths on your wrists and the back of your neck.  Ice packs will work even better.

You can definitely keep your car cooler even without air conditioning by following this advice.  Cool both your car and yourself to increase your driving comfort. Visit Novus for your other car and windscreen needs.
